Surah 25

025 surah

Most blessed is He Who sent down this Criterion on His servant, to be a warner to all mankind;

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Nihayat mutabarrak(ba-barakat) hai woh jisne yeh Furqan apne banday par nazil kiya taa-ke saarey jahan waalon ke liye nazeer(darr sunane wali/warner) ho

He to Whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; Who has taken to Himself no son nor has He taken any partner in His kingdom; Who created everything and then determined its destiny.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Woh jo zameen aur aasmaano ki baadshahi ka malik hai, jisne kisi ko beta nahin banaya hai, jiske saath baadshahi mein koi shareek nahin hai, jisne har cheez ko paida kiya phir uski ek taqdeer muqarrar ki

Yet people have taken, instead of Him, other deities; those that create nothing but are themselves created; who do not have the power to hurt or benefit even themselves; who have no power over death, nor over life, nor over the resurrection of the dead.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Logon ne usey chodh kar aisey mabood bana liye jo kisi cheez ko paida nahin karte balke khud paida kiye jatey hain, jo khud apne liye bhi kisi nafey (faidey) ya nuqsaan ka ikhtiyar nahin rakhte, jo na maar sakte hain na jila sakte hain, na marey (dead) huey ko phir utha sakte hain

Those who disbelieve in the Message of the Prophet say: "This (Criterion) is nothing but a lie which he has forged with the help of others." Such have indeed resorted to a grievous wrong and sheer falsehood.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Jin logon ne Nabi ki baat maanne se inkaar kariya hai woh kehte hain ke yeh furqan ek mann ghadat cheez hai jisey is shaks ne aap hi ghadd liye hai aur kuch dusre logon ne is kaam mein iski madad ki hai.Bada zulm aur sakht jhoot hai jispar yeh log utar aaye hain

They say: "These are merely fairy tales of the ancients which he has got inscribed and they are then recited to him morning and evening."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Kehte hain yeh purane logon ki likhi hui cheezein hain jinhein yeh shaks naqal (copy) karta hai aur woh isey subah o shaam sunayi jaati hain

Say to them (O Muhammad): "It is He Who knows the secrets of the heavens and the earth Who has sent down this Book. Indeed, He is Most Forgiving, Most Compassionate."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

(Aey Muhammad) Insey kaho ke “isey nazil kiya hai usne jo zameen aur aasmano ka bhed (secrets) jaanta hai”. Haqeeqat yeh hai ke woh bada gafoor ur raheem(Forgiving and Merciful) hai

They say: "What sort of a Messenger is this: he eats food and walks about in the markets? Why was an angel not sent down to him so that he may remain with the Messenger and warn those that do not believe in him?

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Kehte hain “yeh kaisa Rasool hai jo khana khata hai aur bazaaron mein chalta phirta hai?

Why was a treasure not bestowed upon him, or a garden whereof he might obtain his sustenance?" The evil-doers say: "You are simply following a bewitched man."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Ya aur kuch nahin to iske liye koi khazana hi utaar diya jata, ya iske paas koi baagh (garden) hi hota jissey yeh (itminaan ki) rozi haasil karta”. Aur zaalim kehte hain “ tum log to ek sehar zadah (bewitched) aadmi ke peechey lag gaye ho”

See what specious arguments they put forth before you: they are so strayed that they will not find their way to anything sound.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Dekho, kaisi kaisi ajeeb hujjatein (arguments) yeh log tumhare aagey pesh kar rahey hain, aisey behke hain ke koi thikane ki baat inko nahin soojhti

Most blessed is He Who, if He wills, can grant you even better than what they propose: Gardens beneath which rivers flow, and stately mansions.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Bada ba-barakat hai woh jo agar chahe to inki tajweej-karda cheezon se bhi zyada badh chadh kar tumko de sakta hai, (ek nahin) bahut sarey baagh (gardens) jinke nichey nehrein behti hon, aur baday baday mahal

Nay, the truth is that it is the Hour to which they give the lie.; We have kept a Blazing Fire ready for him who denies the Hour.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Asal baat yeh hai ke yeh log “Us ghadi” ko jhutla chuke hain aur jo us ghadi ko jhutlaye uske liye humne bhadakti hui aag muhaiyya kar rakkhi hai

When it sees them from a place afar, they will hear its raging and roaring,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Woh jab dur se inko dekhegi to yeh uske gazab aur josh ki aawaazein sun lenge

and when they are flung, chained together, into a narrow place in it, they will fervently call there for annihilation.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur jab yeh dast o pa-basta (zanjeeron mein jakde) usmein ek tangg jagah thoonse jayenge to apni maut ko pukarne lagenge

(They will then be told): "Do not call for a single annihilation, but for many an annihilation."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Ask them: "Is this state better or the Garden of Eternity which the God-fearing have been promised?" It shall be their recompense and the end-point of their journey;

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Insey pucho, yeh anjaam accha hai ya woh abadi jannat jiska wada khuda-tars parhezgaaron se kiya gaya hai? Jo unke aamal ki jaza aur unke safar ki aakhri mazil hogi

the Garden wherein whatever they desire will be fulfilled. In it they shall abide for ever. This is a promise whose fulfilment Your Lord has made incumbent on Himself.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Jis mein unki har khwahish poori hogi, jismein woh hamesha hamesha rahenge, jiska ataa karna tumhare Rubb ke zimme ek wajib ul ada wada hai

On the Day when He will muster together all the unbelievers as well as the deities that they worship beside Allah, and He will ask them: "Was it you who caused these servants of Mine to stray away, or did they themselves stray away from the Right Path?"

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur woh wahi din hoga jabke (tumhara Rubb) in logon ko bhi ghair layega aur inke un maboodon ko bhi bula lega jinhein aaj yeh Allah ko chodh kar poojh rahey hain. Phir woh unse puchega “kya tumne mere in bandon ko gumraah kiya tha?

They will say: "Glory be to You! It did not behove us to take any other than You as our guardians, but You lavished the pleasures of life upon them and their forefathers until they forgot the Admonition and became doomed to destruction."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Woh arz karenge ke “ paak hai aap ki zaat, hamari to yeh bhi majaal na thi ke aap ke siwa kisi ko apna maula banayein, magar aap ne inko aur inke baap dada ko khoob saaman e zindagi diya hatta ke yeh sabaq bhool gaye aur shamat zadah hokar rahey”

Thus will those deities give the lie to all what you now say, and you will not be able to avert your doom, nor obtain any succour. We shall cause whoever of you commits wrong to taste an enormous chastisement.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Yun jhutla denge woh (tumhare mabood) tumhari un baaton ko jo aaj tum keh rahey ho, phir tum na apni shamat (punishment) taal sakoge na kahin se madad paa sakoge. Aur jo bhi tum mein se zulm karey usey hum sakht azaab ka maza chakhayenge

(O Muhammad), We never sent any Messengers before you but they ate food and walked about in the markets. We made some of you a means to test each by the other to see whether you remain patient. Your Lord is All-Seeing.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

(Aey Muhammad), tumse pehle jo Rasool bhi humne bheje thay woh sab bhi khana khane waley aur bazaaron mein chalne phirne waley log hi thay. Darasal humne tum logon ko ek dusre ke liye aazmaish ka zariya bana diya hai, kya tum sabar karte ho? Tumhara Rubb sab kuch dekhta hai

Those who do not look forward to meet Us say: "Why should angels not be sent to us, or why do we ourselves not observe our Lord?" Surely they are too proud of themselves and have gone beyond all limits in their rebellion.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Jo log hamare huzoor pesh honay ka andesha nahin rakhte woh kehte hain “kyun na Farishte hamare paas bheje jayein? Ya phir hum apne Rubb ko dekhein? Bada ghamand le baithey yeh apne nafs mein aur hadd se guzar gaye yeh apni sarkashi mein

On that Day - the Day when they will behold angels - there will be no good news for those immersed in evil, and they will cry out: "We seek refuge (in Allah)."

On that Day the sky shall be rent asunder by a cloud and a whole cavalcade of angels will be made to descend.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Munkireen kehte hain “is shaks par saara Quran ek hi waqt mein kyun na utaar diya gaya? Haan, aisa is liye kiya gaya hai ke isko achhi tarah hum tumhare zehan nasheen karte rahein aur (isi garaz ke liye) humne isko ek khaas tarteeb ke saath alag alag ajzaa ki shakal di hai

(The same happened with) the people of Noah: when they gave the lie to the Messengers We drowned them and made of them a Sign of warning for all mankind. We have kept ready a painful chastisement for the wrong-doers.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Yahi haal qaum e Nooh ka hua jab unhon ne Rasoolon ki takzeeb ki, humne unko garq (drown/duba) kardiya aur duniya bhar ke logon ke liye ek nishaan e ibrat bana diya, aur in zaalimon ke liye ek dardnaak azaab humne muhaiyya kar rakkha hai

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)
