Surah 81

081 surah

اِذَا الشَّمۡسُ كُوِّرَتۡۙ‏ ١

When the sun shall be folded up,

Jab Suraj lapeit diya jayega

وَاِذَا النُّجُوۡمُ انْكَدَرَتۡۙ‏ ٢

when the stars shall scatter away,

Aur jab taarey bikhar jayenge

وَاِذَا الۡجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتۡۙ‏ ٣

when the mountains shall be set in motion,

Aur jab pahad chalaye jayenge

وَاِذَا الۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡۙ‏ ٤

when the ten-months pregnant camels shall be abandoned,

Aur jab dus mahine ki hamila ountniyan (she-camels) apne haal par chod di jayengi

وَاِذَا الۡوُحُوۡشُ حُشِرَتۡۙ‏ ٥

when the savage beasts shall be brought together,

Aur jab jungli jaanwar sameth kar ikhattey kar diye jayenge

وَاِذَا الۡبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتۡۙ‏ ٦

when the seas shall be set boiling,

Aur jab samandar bhadka diye jayenge

وَاِذَا النُّفُوۡسُ زُوِّجَتۡۙ‏ ٧

when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies),

Aur jab jaane (Jismon se) jodh di jayengi

وَاِذَا الۡمَوۡءٗدَةُ سُٮِٕلَتۡۙ‏ ٨

and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked:

Aur jab zinda gaadi hui(buried) ladki se pucha jayega

بِاَىِّ ذَنۡۢبٍ قُتِلَتۡ​ۚ‏ ٩

for what offence was she killed?

ke woh kis kasoor mei mari gayi

وَاِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتۡۙ‏ ١٠

and when the scrolls of (men's) deeds shall be unfolded,

Aur jab aamal-naame(scrolls of deeds) kholey jayenge

وَاِذَا السَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتۡۙ‏ ١١

and when Heaven is laid bare;

Aur jab aasman ka purda hata diya jayega

وَاِذَا الۡجَحِيۡمُ سُعِّرَتۡۙ‏ ١٢

and Hell is stoked,

Aur jab Jahannam dehkayi jayegi

وَاِذَا الۡجَـنَّةُ اُزۡلِفَتۡۙ‏ ١٣

and Paradise brought nigh:

Aur jab Jannat qareeb le aayi jayegi

عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسٌ مَّاۤ اَحۡضَرَتۡؕ‏ ١٤

then shall each person know what he has brought along.

Us waqt har shaks ko maloom ho jayega ke woh kya lekar aaya hai

فَلَاۤ اُقۡسِمُ بِالۡخُنَّسِۙ‏ ١٥

No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars

Pas nahin main kasam khata hoon

الۡجَوَارِ الۡكُنَّسِۙ‏ ١٦

that hide,

Palatne aur chup janey wale taaron ki

وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا عَسۡعَسَۙ‏ ١٧

and by the night as it recedes,

Aur Raat ki jabke woh ruksat hui

وَالصُّبۡحِ اِذَا تَنَفَّسَۙ‏ ١٨

and the morn as it breathes.

Aur subah ki jabke usne saans liya

اِنَّهٗ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُوۡلٍ كَرِيۡمٍۙ‏ ١٩

Verily this is the word of a noble message-bearer;

Yeh fil waqea ek buzurg paigam-bar ka qaul(word) hai

ذِىۡ قُوَّةٍ عِنۡدَ ذِى الۡعَرۡشِ مَكِيۡنٍۙ‏ ٢٠

one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne;

Jo badi tawanai (might) rakhta hai, Arsh waley ke yahan buland martaba hai

مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ اَمِيۡنٍؕ‏ ٢١

there he is obeyed and held trustworthy.

Wahan uska hukum mana jata hai, Woh ba-aitamad (trustworthy) hai

وَ مَا صَاحِبُكُمۡ بِمَجۡنُوۡنٍ​ۚ‏ ٢٢

(O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad;

Aur (aey ehle Makkah) tumhara rafeeq(companion) majnoon(mad) nahin hai

وَلَقَدۡ رَاٰهُ بِالۡاُفُقِ الۡمُبِيۡنِ​ۚ‏ ٢٣

he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon;

Usne us paigambar ko roshan ufaq (clear horizon) par dekha hai

وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الۡغَيۡبِ بِضَنِيۡنٍ​ۚ‏ ٢٤

nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen;

Aur woh gaib (ke is ilam ko logon tak pahunchane) ke maamle mei bakheel nahin hai

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَيۡطٰنٍ رَّجِيۡمٍۙ‏ ٢٥

nor is it a word of an accursed Satan.

Aur yeh kisi shaitan-e-mardood ka qaul nahin hai

فَاَيۡنَ تَذۡهَبُوۡنَؕ‏ ٢٦

Where to are you then heading?

Phir tum log kidhar chaley ja rahey ho

اِنۡ هُوَ اِلَّا ذِكۡرٌ لِّلۡعٰلَمِيۡنَۙ‏ ٢٧

It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world,

Yeh to saarey jahan walon ke liye ek naseehat hai

لِمَنۡ شَآءَ مِنۡكُمۡ اَنۡ يَّسۡتَقِيۡمَؕ‏ ٢٨

for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way;

Tum mein se har us shaks ke liye jo raah-e-raast par chalna chahta ho

وَمَا تَشَآءُوۡنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ يَّشَآءَ اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ‏ ٢٩

but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes.

Aur tumharey chahney se kuch nahin hota jab tak Allah Rabb-ul-Aalameen na chahey
