Surah 83

083 surah

وَيۡلٌ لِّلۡمُطَفِّفِيۡنَۙ‏ ١

Woe to the stinters;

Tabahi hai dandi maarne walon ke liye

الَّذِيۡنَ اِذَا اكۡتَالُوۡا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسۡتَوۡفُوۡنَۖ‏ ٢

those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share;

Jinka haal yeh hai ke jab logon se letey hai to pura pura letey hai

وَاِذَا كَالُوۡهُمۡ اَوْ وَّزَنُوۡهُمۡ يُخۡسِرُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣

but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due.

Aur jab unko naap kar ya toal kar dete hai to unhein ghata dete hai

اَلَا يَظُنُّ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ اَنَّهُمۡ مَّبۡعُوۡثُوۡنَۙ‏ ٤

Do they not realise that they will be raised to life

Kya yeh log nahin samajhte ke ek badey din

لِيَوۡمٍ عَظِيۡمٍۙ‏ ٥

on a Great Day,

Yeh utha kar laaye jaaney waley hain

يَّوۡمَ يَقُوۡمُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَؕ‏ ٦

a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe?

Uss din jabke sab log Rabb-ul-Aalamin ke samney khadey hongey

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الۡفُجَّارِ لَفِىۡ سِجِّيۡنٍؕ‏ ٧

No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house!

Hargiz nahin, yaqeenan badkaaron ka naam-e- aamal qaid-khane ke daftar mei hai

وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا سِجِّيۡنٌؕ‏ ٨

And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is?

Aur tumhey kya maloom ke woh qaid-khaney ka daftar kya hai

كِتٰبٌ مَّرۡقُوۡمٌؕ‏ ٩

It is a Book inscribed.

Ek kitaab hai likhi hui

وَيۡلٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِيۡنَۙ‏ ١٠

Woe, then, to those that give the lie,

Tabahi hai us roz jhutlane walon ke liye

الَّذِيۡنَ يُكَذِّبُوۡنَ بِيَوۡمِ الدِّيۡنِؕ‏ ١١

those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense.

Jo roz-e-jaza ko jhutlatay hain

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهٖۤ اِلَّا كُلُّ مُعۡتَدٍ اَثِيۡمٍۙ‏ ١٢

Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin;

Aur usey nahin jhutlata magar har woh shaks jo hadd se guzar janey wala bad-amal hai

اِذَا تُتۡلٰى عَلَيۡهِ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِيۡرُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَؕ‏ ١٣

who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!”

Usey jab hamari ayaat sunayi jaati hain to kehta hai yeh to agley waqton ki kahaniyan hai

كَلَّا​ بَلۡ رَانَ عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ مَّا كَانُوۡا يَكۡسِبُوۡنَ‏ ١٤

No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds.

Hargiz nahin, balke darasal in logon ke dilon par inke burey aamal ka zang(rust) chadh gaya hai

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهُمۡ عَنۡ رَّبِّهِمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لَّمَحۡجُوۡبُوۡنَ​ؕ‏ ١٥

No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from seeing their Lord,

Hargiz nahin bil yaqeen us roz yeh apne Rubb ki deed(deedar) se mehroom rakhey jayenge

ثُمَّ اِنَّهُمۡ لَصَالُوا الۡجَحِيۡمِؕ‏ ١٦

and then they shall enter Hell,

Phir yeh jahannum mein jaa padenge

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هٰذَا الَّذِىۡ كُنۡتُمۡ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوۡنَؕ‏ ١٧

whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.”

Phir insey kaha jayega ke yeh wahi cheez hai jisey tum jhutlaya karte thay

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الۡاَبۡرَارِ لَفِىۡ عِلِّيِّيۡنَؕ‏ ١٨

No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones.

Hargiz nahin, beshak neik aadmion ka naam-e-aamal buland paya logon ke daftar mein hai

وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا عِلِّيُّوۡنَؕ‏ ١٩

And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is?

Aur tumhein kya khabar ke kya hai woh buland paya logon ka daftar

كِتٰبٌ مَّرۡقُوۡمٌۙ‏ ٢٠

It is a Book inscribed,

Ek likhi hui kitaab hai

يَّشۡهَدُهُ الۡمُقَرَّبُوۡنَؕ‏ ٢١

which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard.

Jiski nigeh-daasht muqarrab farishtay karte hain

اِنَّ الۡاَبۡرَارَ لَفِىۡ نَعِيۡمٍۙ‏ ٢٢

Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss;

Beshak neik log badey mazey mein hongey

عَلَى الۡاَرَآٮِٕكِ يَنۡظُرُوۡنَۙ‏ ٢٣

resting on couches, looking around.

Unchi masnadon(couches) par baithay nazarey kar rahey hongey

تَعۡرِفُ فِىۡ وُجُوۡهِهِمۡ نَضۡرَةَ النَّعِيۡمِ​ۚ‏ ٢٤

You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss.

Unke chehron par tum khushhaali ki raunak mehsoos karogey

يُسۡقَوۡنَ مِنۡ رَّحِيۡقٍ مَّخۡتُوۡمٍۙ‏ ٢٥

They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine,

Unko nafees tareen sarband sharaab pilayi jayegi jispar mushk ki mohar(seal) lagi hogi

خِتٰمُهٗ مِسۡكٌ ​ؕ وَفِىۡ ذٰلِكَ فَلۡيَتَنَافَسِ الۡمُتَنــَافِسُوۡنَؕ‏ ٢٦

whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that –

Jo log dusron par baazi le jana chahtey hon woh is cheez ko haasil karne mei baazi le jane ki koshish karein

وَ مِزَاجُهٗ مِنۡ تَسۡنِيۡمٍۙ‏ ٢٧

a wine whose mixture is Tasnim,

Us sharaab mei tasneem ki aamezish(mixture) hogi

عَيۡنًا يَّشۡرَبُ بِهَا الۡمُقَرَّبُوۡنَؕ‏ ٢٨

a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink.

Yeh ek chasma hai jiske paani ke saath muqarrab log sharaab piyengey

اِنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ اَجۡرَمُوۡا كَانُوۡا مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا يَضۡحَكُوۡنَ  ۖ‏ ٢٩

Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers:

Mujrim log duniya mein imaan laane walon ka mazaak udate thay

وَاِذَا مَرُّوۡا بِهِمۡ يَتَغَامَزُوۡنَ  ۖ‏ ٣٠

when they passed by them they winked,

Jab unke paas se guzarte to aankhein maar maar kar unki taraf isharey karte thay

وَاِذَا انۡقَلَبُوۡۤا اِلٰٓى اَهۡلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوۡا فَكِهِيۡنَ  ۖ‏ ٣١

and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting,

Apne gharon ki taraf palat-tey to mazey letey huey palat-tey thay

وَاِذَا رَاَوۡهُمۡ قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ لَـضَآلُّوۡنَۙ‏ ٣٢

and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”;

Aur jab unhein dekhte to kehte thay ke yeh behke huey log hain

وَمَاۤ اُرۡسِلُوۡا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حٰفِظِيۡنَۙ‏ ٣٣

(they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them.

Halaanke woh un par nigran banakar nahin bhejey gaye thay

فَالۡيَوۡمَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا مِنَ الۡكُفَّارِ يَضۡحَكُوۡنَۙ‏ ٣٤

But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers;

Aaj imaan laane waley kuffar par hans rahay hai

عَلَى الۡاَرَآٮِٕكِۙ يَنۡظُرُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣٥

seated upon their couches, they are looking around.

Masnadon par baithey huey unka haal dekh rahey hain

هَلۡ ثُوِّبَ الۡكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوۡا يَفۡعَلُوۡنَ‏ ٣٦

Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds?

Mil gaya na kafiron ko un harkaton ka sawab jo woh kiya karte thay
