The time of people's reckoning has drawn near, and yet they turn aside in heedlessness.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Qareeb aa gaya hai logon ke hisaab ka waqt, aur woh hain ke gaflat mein mooh moadey huey hain

Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord they barely heed it and remain immersed in play,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Unke paas jo taaza naseehat bhi unke Rubb ki taraf se aati hai usko be-takalluf sunte hain aur khel mein padey rehte hain

their hearts being set on other concerns. The wrong-doers whisper to one another: "This person is no more than a mortal like yourselves. Will you, then, be enchanted by sorcery while you see?"

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Dil unke (dusri hi fikron mein) munhamik hain aur zalim aapas mein sargoshiyan(whisper) karte hain ke “yeh shaks aakhir tum jaisa ek bashar (Insaan) hi to hai, phir kya tum aankhon dekhte jaadu ke phanday mein phas jaogey?”

He said: "My Lord knows well all that is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He is All-Hearing, All- Knowing."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Rasool ne kaha, mera Rubb har us baat ko jaanta hai jo aasman aur zameen mein ki jaye, woh sami(sunne wala) aur aleem (jaanne wala) hai

They say: "Nay, these are confused dreams; nay, he has forged it; nay, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign, even as the Messengers of the past were sent with signs."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Woh kehte hain “balke yeh paraganda (incoherent) khwab hai , balke yeh iski mann-ghadath hai, balke yeh shaks shayar hai warna yeh laye koi nishani jis tarah purane zamane ke Rasool nishaniyon ke saath bheje gaye thay”

Not one township that We destroyed before them believed. Would they, then, believe?

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Halaanke inse pehle koi basti bhi, jisey humne halaak kiya, iman na layi, ab kya yeh iman layenge

(O Muhammad), even before you We never sent any other than human beings as Messengers, and to them We sent revelation. Ask the People of the Book if you do not know.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur (aey Muhammad), tumse pehle bhi humne Insaano hi ko Rasool bana kar bheja tha jinpar hum wahee (revelation) kiya karte thay, Tum log agar ilm nahin rakhte to ehle kitaab se pooch lo

We did not endow the Messengers with bodies that would need no food; nor were they immortals.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Un Rasoolon ko humne koi aisa jism nahin diya tha ke woh khate na hon, aur na woh sadaa (hamesha) jeenay waley thay

Then We fulfilled the promise We had made to them: We rescued them and those whom We wished, and We destroyed those who exceeded all bounds.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Phir dekhlo ke aakhir e kaar humne unke saath apne wadey poorey kiye, aur unhein aur jis jis ko humne chaha bacha liya, aur hadd se guzar janey walon ko halaak kardiya

We have bestowed upon you a Book that mentions you. Do you not understand?

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Logon, humne tumhari taraf ek aisi kitaab bheji hai jismein tumhara hi zikr hai, kya tum samajhte nahin ho

How many a wrong-doing town did We shatter and then raise up another people.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Kitni hi zalim bastiyan hain jinko humne pees kar rakh diya aur unke baad dusri kisi qaum ko uthaya

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Jab unko hamara azaab mehsoos hua to lagey wahan se bhaagne

(They were told): "Flee not, but return to your comforts and to your dwellings. You are likely to be questioned."

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

(kaha gaya) “bhaago nahin, jao apne unhi gharon mein aur aesh ke samaano mein jinke andar tum chain kar rahey thay, shayad ke tumse poocha jaye”

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Kehne lagey “haye hamari kambakhti, beshak hum khatawaar thay”
