Surah 52

052 surah

وَالطُّوۡرِۙ‏ ١

By the Mount,

Kasam hai Tur (Mount) ki

وَكِتٰبٍ مَّسۡطُوۡرٍۙ‏ ٢

and the Book inscribed

Aur ek aisi khuli kitaab ki

فِىۡ رَقٍّ مَّنۡشُوۡرٍۙ‏ ٣

on fine parchment;

Jo raqeeq jild(fine parchment) mein likkhi hui hai

وَالۡبَيۡتِ الۡمَعۡمُوۡرِۙ‏ ٤

by the much-frequented House,

Aur aabaad (much-frequented) ghar ki

وَالسَّقۡفِ الۡمَرۡفُوۡعِۙ‏ ٥

by the elevated canopy;

Aur unchi chatt (canopy) ki

وَالۡبَحۡرِ الۡمَسۡجُوۡرِۙ‏ ٦

and by the swelling sea:

Aur maujzan samandar (swelling sea) ki

اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لوَاقِعٌ ۙ‏ ٧

verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass,

Ke tere Rubb ka azaab zaroor waqeh honay wala hai

مَّا لَهٗ مِنۡ دَافِعٍۙ‏ ٨

none can avert that.

Jisey koi dafa karne wala nahin

يَّوۡمَ تَمُوۡرُ السَّمَآءُ مَوۡرًا ۙ‏ ٩

(It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion,

Woh us roz waqeh hoga jab aasmaan buri tarah dagmagayega

وَّتَسِيۡرُ الۡجِبَالُ سَيۡرًا ؕ‏ ١٠

and the mountains shall violently fly about.

Aur pahad udey udey phirenge

فَوَيۡلٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لِّـلۡمُكَذِّبِيۡنَۙ‏ ١١

Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message)

Tabahi hai us roz un jhutlane walon ke liye

الَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ فِىۡ خَوۡضٍ يَّلۡعَبُوۡنَ​ۘ‏ ١٢

and amuse themselves with vain argumentation.

Jo aaj khel ke taur par apni hujjat baaziyon mein lagey huey hain

يَوۡمَ يُدَعُّوۡنَ اِلٰى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّاؕ‏ ١٣

On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told):

Jis din unhein dhakke maar maar kar naar-e-jahannum (fire of hell) ki taraf le chala jayega

هٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّتِىۡ كُنۡتُمۡ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُوۡنَ‏ ١٤

“This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.”

Us waqt unse kaha jayega ke “ yeh wahi aag hai jisey tum jhutlaya karte thay

اَفَسِحۡرٌ هٰذَاۤ اَمۡ اَنۡتُمۡ لَا تُبۡصِرُوۡنَ​ۚ‏ ١٥

Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see?

Ab batao yeh jaadu hai ya tumhein soojh nahin raha hai

اِصۡلَوۡهَا فَاصۡبِرُوۡۤا اَوۡ لَا تَصۡبِرُوۡا​ۚ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡ​ؕ اِنَّمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنۡتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ‏ ١٦

Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.”

Jao ab jhulso iske andar, tum khwa sabr karo ya na karo, tumhare liye yaksan hai, tumhein waisa hi badla diya ja raha hai jaise tum amal kar rahey thay

اِنَّ الۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ فِىۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّنَعِيۡمٍۙ‏ ١٧

Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss,

Muttaqi log wahan baagon (gardens) aur niyamaton mein hongey

فٰكِهِيۡنَ بِمَاۤ اٰتٰٮهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ​ۚ وَوَقٰٮهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ عَذَابَ الۡجَحِيۡمِ‏  ١٨

enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire.

Lutf le rahe hongey un cheezon se jo unka Rubb unhein dega, aur unka Rubb unhein dozakh ke azaab se bacha lega

كُلُوۡا وَاشۡرَبُوۡا هَـنِٓـيـْئًا ۢ بِمَا كُنۡـتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُوۡنَۙ‏ ١٩

(They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.”

(Unse kaha jayega) khao aur peo mazey se apne un aamaal ke siley mein jo tum karte rahey ho

مُتَّكِـــِٕيۡنَ عَلٰى سُرُرٍ مَّصۡفُوۡفَةٍ​ ۚ وَزَوَّجۡنٰهُمۡ بِحُوۡرٍ عِيۡنٍ‏  ٢٠

The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes.

Woh aamne saamne bichey huey takhaton(thrones) par takiye(couches) lagaye baithey hongey aur hum khoobsurat aankhon waali hoorein unse biyah (marry) denge

وَالَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَاتَّبَعَتۡهُمۡ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمۡ بِاِيۡمَانٍ اَلۡحَـقۡنَا بِهِمۡ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمۡ وَمَاۤ اَلَـتۡنٰهُمۡ مِّنۡ عَمَلِهِمۡ مِّنۡ شَىۡءٍ​ؕ كُلُّ امۡرِیءٍۢ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِيۡنٌ‏ ٢١

We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did.

Jo log imaan laaye hain aur unki aulad bhi kisi darja-e-imaan mein unke naksh-e-qadam par chali hai unki us aulad ko bhi hun (jannat mein) unke saath mila denge aur unke amaal mein koi ghaata(loss) unko na denge. Har shaks apne kasb ke aevaz rehan hai.( Every person is pledged to what he did)

وَاَمۡدَدۡنٰهُمۡ بِفَاكِهَةٍ وَّلَحۡمٍ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُوۡنَ‏ ٢٢

We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire.

Hum unko har tarah ke phal (fruits) aur gosht , jis cheez ko bhi unka ji chahega khoob diye chale jayenge

يَـتَـنَازَعُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا كَاۡسًا لَّا لَغۡوٌ فِيۡهَا وَلَا تَاۡثِيۡمٌ‏ ٢٣

They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin.

Wahan woh ek dusre se jaam-e-sharaab lapak lapak kar le rahey hongey jis mein na yawa-goyi (ill speech) hogi na bad-kirdari

وَيَطُوۡفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ غِلۡمَانٌ لَّهُمۡ كَاَنَّهُمۡ لُـؤۡلُـؤٌ مَّكۡنُوۡنٌ‏  ٢٤

Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them.

Aur unki khidmat mein woh ladke daudte (running) phir rahey hongey jo unhi ke liye makhsoos hongey, aisey khoobsurat jaise chupa kar rakkhe huey moti(pearls)

وَاَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلٰى بَعۡضٍ يَّتَسَآءَلُوۡنَ‏ ٢٥

They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events).

Yeh log apas mein ek dusre se (duniya mein guzre huey) halaat puchenge

قَالُـوۡۤا اِنَّا كُـنَّا قَبۡلُ فِىۡۤ اَهۡلِنَا مُشۡفِقِيۡنَ‏ ٢٦

They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure).

Yeh kahenge ke hum pehle apne ghar waalon mein darte huey zindagi basar karte thay

فَمَنَّ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡنَا وَوَقٰٮنَا عَذَابَ السَّمُوۡمِ‏ ٢٧

Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind.

Aakhir e kaar Allah ne hum par fazl farmaya aur humein jhulsa dene wali hawa ke azaab se bacha liya

اِنَّا كُـنَّا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ نَدۡعُوۡهُ​ ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ الۡبَـرُّ الرَّحِيۡمُ‏  ٢٨

Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.”

Hum pichli zindagi mein usi se duaein maangte thay, woh waqai bada hi Mohsin (beneficent) aur Raheem hai

فَذَكِّرۡ فَمَاۤ اَنۡتَ بِنِعۡمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَّلَا مَجۡنُوۡنٍؕ‏ ٢٩

So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman.

Pas aey nabi, tum nasihat kiye jao, apne Rubb ke fazal se na tum kaahin (soothsayer) ho aur na majnoon (madman)

اَمۡ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَـرَبَّصُ بِهٖ رَيۡبَ الۡمَنُوۡنِ‏ ٣٠

Or do they say: “He is a poet for whom we await an adverse turn of fortune.”

Kya yeh log kehte hain ke yeh shaks shayar hai jiske haqq mein hum gardish-e-ayyam (misfortune) ke intizaar kar rahe hain

قُلۡ تَرَبَّصُوۡا فَاِنِّىۡ مَعَكُمۡ مِّنَ الۡمُتَـرَبِّصِيۡنَ ؕ‏ ٣١

Tell them: “Wait; I too am waiting with you.”

Inse kaho, accha intizaar karo, main bhi tumhare saath intizaar karta hoon

اَمۡ تَاۡمُرُهُمۡ اَحۡلَامُهُمۡ بِهٰذَآ​ اَمۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٌ طَاغُوۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٣٢

Do their minds prompt them to say such things, or are they a people immersed in transgression?”

Kya inki aqalein(minds) inhein aisi hi baatein karne ke liye kehti hain? Ya dar-haqeeqat yeh inaad (transgression)mein hadd se guzare huey log hain

اَمۡ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ تَقَوَّلَهٗ​ ۚ بَلْ لَّا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ​ ۚ‏ ٣٣

Do they say: “He has himself fabricated the Qur'an?” No; the truth is that they are altogether averse to believing.

Kya ye kehte hain ke is shaks ne yeh quraan khud ghad (invented/fabricated) liya hai? Asal baat yeh hai ke yeh imaan nahin lana chahte

فَلۡيَاۡتُوۡا بِحَدِيۡثٍ مِّثۡلِهٖۤ اِنۡ كَانُوۡا صٰدِقِيۡنَؕ‏ ٣٤

(If they are truthful in this), then let them produce a discourse of similar splendour.

Agar yeh apne is qaul (saying) mein sacche hain to isi shaan ka ek kalaam bana layein

اَمۡ خُلِقُوۡا مِنۡ غَيۡرِ شَىۡءٍ اَمۡ هُمُ الۡخٰلِقُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣٥

Did they come into being without any creator? Or were they their own creators?

Kya yeh kisi khaliq ke bagair khud paida ho gaye hain? Ya yeh khud apne khaliq hain

اَمۡ خَلَـقُوا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ​ۚ بَلْ لَّا يُوۡقِنُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣٦

Or is it they who created the heavens and the earth? No; the truth is that they lack sure faith.

Ya zameen aur aasmaano ko inhon ne paida kiya hai? Asal baat yeh hai ke yeh yaqeen nahin rakhte

اَمۡ عِنۡدَهُمۡ خَزَآٮِٕنُ رَبِّكَ اَمۡ هُمُ الۡمُصَۜيۡطِرُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣٧

Or do they have your Lord's treasures in their keeping? Or have absolute authority over them?

Kya tere Rubb ke khazane in ke kabze mein hain? Ya un par inhi ka hukum chalta hai

اَمۡ لَهُمۡ سُلَّمٌ يَّسۡتَمِعُوۡنَ فِيۡهِ​ ۚ فَلۡيَاۡتِ مُسۡتَمِعُهُمۡ بِسُلۡطٰنٍ مُّبِيۡنٍؕ‏ ٣٨

Or do they have a ladder whereon they can climb and attempt to listen (to what is transpiring in the Higher Realm)? Then, let any of them who has listened to it produce a clear proof of it.

Kya inke paas koi seedi(ladder) hai jispar chadh kar yeh ilm-e-baala ki sun-gun letey hain? In mein se jisne sun-gun li ho woh laaye ko khuli daleel

اَمۡ لَـهُ الۡبَنٰتُ وَلَـكُمُ الۡبَنُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣٩

Or does Allah have daughters whereas you have sons?

Kya Allah ke liye to hain betiyan aur tum logon ke liye hain betay (sons)

اَمۡ تَسۡـَٔـلُهُمۡ اَجۡرًا فَهُمۡ مِّنۡ مَّغۡرَمٍ مُّثۡقَلُوۡنَؕ‏ ٤٠

Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt?

Kya tum insey koi ajar maangte ho key eh zabardasti padi hui chatti ke bojh taley dabey jatey hain (burdened with a load of debt)

اَمۡ عِنۡدَهُمُ الۡغَيۡبُ فَهُمۡ يَكۡتُبُوۡنَؕ‏ ٤١

Or is it that they have access to (the Truths in) the realm beyond sense-perception which they are writing down?

Kya inke paas gaib ke haqaiq ka ilm hai ke uski bina par yeh likh rahe hoon

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

اَمۡ يُرِيۡدُوۡنَ كَيۡدًا​ؕ فَالَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا هُمُ الۡمَكِيۡدُوۡنَؕ‏  ٤٢

Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers.

Kya yeh koi chaal chalna chahte hain? (agar yeh baat hai) to kufr karne walon par in ki chaal ulti hi padegi

اَمۡ لَهُمۡ اِلٰهٌ غَيۡرُ اللّٰهِ​ؕ سُبۡحٰنَ اللّٰهِ عَمَّا يُشۡرِكُوۡنَ‏  ٤٣

Do they have any god other than Allah? Exalted be Allah above whatever they associate (with Him in His Divinity).

Kya Allah ke siwa yeh koi aur maabood rakhte hain? Allah paak hai us shirk se jo yeh log kar rahey hain

وَاِنۡ يَّرَوۡا كِسۡفًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًا يَّقُوۡلُوۡا سَحَابٌ مَّرۡكُوۡمٌ‏  ٤٤

(So obstinate are they that) even if they were to see some fragments of the sky falling down they would still say: “It is only a mass of cloud.”

Yeh log aasmaan ke tukde bhi girte huye dekh lein to kahenge yeh baadal hain jo umdey chale aa rahe hain

فَذَرۡهُمۡ حَتّٰى يُلٰقُوۡا يَوۡمَهُمُ الَّذِىۡ فِيۡهِ يُصۡعَقُوۡنَۙ‏ ٤٥

So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs when they shall be struck down,

Pas aey nabi, inhein inke haal par chodh do yahan tak ke yeh apne us din ko pahunch jayein jismein yeh maar giraye jayenge

يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِىۡ عَنۡهُمۡ كَيۡدُهُمۡ شَيۡـًٔـا وَّلَا هُمۡ يُنۡصَرُوۡنَؕ‏  ٤٦

when their stratagem shall be of no avail to them, nor shall they be succoured.

Jis din na inki apni koi chaal inke kisi kaam aayegi na koi inki madad ko aayega

وَاِنَّ لِلَّذِيۡنَ ظَلَمُوۡا عَذَابًا دُوۡنَ ذٰلِكَ وَلٰـكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏ ٤٧

Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know.

Aur us waqt ke aane se pehle bhi zalimon ke liye ek azaab hai, magar in mein se aksar jaante nahin hain

وَاصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ فَاِنَّكَ بِاَعۡيُنِنَا​ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ حِيۡنَ تَقُوۡمُۙ‏ ٤٨

Be patient, then, (O Prophet), until the judgement of your Lord comes. For surely you are before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise,

Aey Nabi , apne Rubb ka faisla aane tak sabr karo. Tum hamari nigaah mein ho. Tum jab utho to apne Rubb ki hamd ke saath uski tasbeeh karo

وَمِنَ الَّيۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَاِدۡبَارَ النُّجُوۡمِ‏ ٤٩

and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars.

Raat ko bhi uski tasbeeh kiya karo aur sitare jab palat-te hain us waqt bhi
