Surah 71

071 surah

We sent Noah to his people (and directed him): “Warn your people before a grievous chastisement comes upon them.”

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Humne Nooh ko uski qaum ki taraf bheja (is hidayat ke saath) ke apni qaum ke logon ko khabardar karde qabl iske ke unpar ek dardnaak azaab aaye

Noah said: “My people, I have certainly been sent as a clear warner to you,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Usne kaha “ Aey meri qaum ke logon, main tumhare liye ek saaf saaf khabardar kardene wala (paighambar) hoon

that you serve Allah and fear Him, and follow me;

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

(Tumko aagah karta hoon) ke Allah ki bandagi karo aur ussey daro aur meri itaat (follow) karo

He will forgive your sins and will grant you respite until an appointed term. Indeed when Allah's appointed term comes, it cannot be deferred; if you only knew!”

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Haqeeqat yeh hai ke Allah ka mukarrar kiya hua waqt jab aa jata hai to phir taala nahin jata kaash tumhein iska ilm ho

but the more I called, the farther they fled.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Magar meri pukar ne unke farar hi mei izafa kiya

And every time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears and wrapped up their faces with their garments and obstinately clung to their attitude, and waxed very proud.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur jab bhi maine unko bulaya taa-ke tu unhein maaf karde , unhon ne kaano mein ungliyan thoos li aur apne kapdon se mooh dhaank liye aur apni rawish par adh gaye aur bada takabbur (proudness) kiya

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

Phir maine unko haanke pukarey (openly) ki dawat di

and preached to them in public, and also addressed them in secret.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Phir maine aelaniya (publicly) bhi unko tableeg ki aur chupke chupke bhi samjhaya

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

I said to them: “Ask forgiveness from your Lord; surely He is Most Forgiving.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Maine kaha apne Rubb se maafi maango, beshak woh bada maaf karne wala hai

He will shower upon you torrents from heaven,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Woh tumpar aasmaan se khoob baarishein barsayega

and will provide you with wealth and children, and will bestow upon you gardens and rivers.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Tumhein maal aur aulad se nawaze ga, tumhare liye baagh paida karega aur tumhare liye nehrein jaari kardega

What is amiss with you that you do not look forward to the majesty of Allah

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Tumhein kya ho gaya hai ke Allah ke liye tum kisi waqar (majesty) ki tawakku nahin rakhte

when He has created you in stages?

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Halaanke usne tarah tarah se tumhein banaya hai

Do you not see how Allah has created seven heavens, one upon the other,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

and has placed the moon in them as a light, and the sun as a radiant lamp?

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur unmein chand ko noor aur suraj ko chiraag banaya

And Allah has caused you to grow out of the earth so wondrously,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Phir woh tumhein isi zameen mein wapas le jayega aur issey yakayak tumko nikal khada karega

Allah has made the earth a wide expanse for you

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

so that you may tread its spacious paths.”

They contrived a plot of great magnitude.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

In logon ne bada bhaari makr (plot) ka jaal phaila rakkha hai

They said: “Do not abandon your deities; do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, nor Yauq, nor Nasr.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

They have misled many. So do not enable these evildoers to increase in anything except straying (from the Right Way).”

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Inhon ne bahut logon ko gumraah kiya hai, aur tu bhi in zalimon ko gumrahi ke siwa kisi cheez mein tarakki na de

for certainly if You should leave them (alive), they will mislead Your servants, and will beget none but sinners and utter unbelievers.

My Lord, forgive me and my parents, and whoever enters my house as a believer, and forgive all believers, both men and women, and do not increase the wrong-doers in anything except perdition.”

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Mere Rubb, mujhey aur mere waldain ko aur har us shaks ko jo mere ghar mein momin ki haisiyat se dakhil hua hai, Aur sab momin mardon aur auraton ko maaf farma de, Aur zalimon ke liye halakat ke siwa kisi cheez mein izafa na kar

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)
