حٰمٓ ​ ۛ​ۚ‏ ١

Ha'. Mim.

وَالۡكِتٰبِ الۡمُبِيۡنِ ​ ۛ​ۙ‏ ٢

By the Clear Book.

Kasam hai is kitaab e Mubeen ki

اِنَّاۤ اَنۡزَلۡنٰهُ فِىۡ لَيۡلَةٍ مُّبٰـرَكَةٍ​ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُنۡذِرِيۡنَ‏  ٣

We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning;

Ke humne isey ek badi khair o barakat wali raat mein nazil kiya hai, kyunke hum logon ko mutanabbeh (warning) karne ka irada rakhte thay

فِيۡهَا يُفۡرَقُ كُلُّ اَمۡرٍ حَكِيۡمٍۙ‏ ٤

(We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined

Yeh woh raat thi jismein har maamle ka hakeemana faisla

اَمۡرًا مِّنۡ عِنۡدِنَا​ؕ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُرۡسِلِيۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٥

by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger

Hamare hukum se sadir kiya jata hai. Hum ek Rasool bhejne waley thay

رَحۡمَةً مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ​ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِيۡعُ الۡعَلِيۡمُۙ‏ ٦

as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing,

Tere Rubb ki rehmat ke taur par.Yaqeenan wahi sab kuch sunne aur jaanne wala hai

رَبِّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا​ۘ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ مُّوۡقِنِيۡنَ‏  ٧

the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith.

Aasmano aur zameen ka Rubb aur har us cheez ka Rubb jo Aasman o zameen ke darmiyan hai agar tum log waqaii yakeen rakhne waley ho

لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ يُحۡىٖ وَيُمِيۡتُ​ؕ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ اٰبَآٮِٕكُمُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ‏ ٨

There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore.

Koi maabood uske siwa nahin hai. Wahi zindagi ata karta hai aur wahi maut deta hai.Tumhara Rubb aur tumhare un aslaaf (forefathers) ka Rubb jo pehle guzar chuke hain

بَلۡ هُمۡ فِىۡ شَكٍّ يَّلۡعَبُوۡنَ‏ ٩

(But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt.

(Magar fil-waqeh in logon ko yaqeen nahin hai) balke yeh apne shakk mein paday khel rahey hain

فَارۡتَقِبۡ يَوۡمَ تَاۡتِى السَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِيۡنٍۙ‏ ١٠

So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke,

Accha intezar karo us din ka jab aasman sareeh dhuwan (smoke) liye huey aayega

يَغۡشَى النَّاسَ​ؕ هٰذَا عَذَابٌ اَلِيۡمٌ‏ ١١

enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge.

Aur woh logon par chaa jayega, yeh hai dardnaak saza

رَبَّنَا اكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا الۡعَذَابَ اِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ‏ ١٢

(People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.”

(Ab kehte hain ke) “ parwardigar , humpar se yeh azaab taal de, hum imaan laatey hain”

اَنّٰى لَهُمُ الذِّكۡرٰى وَقَدۡ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ مُّبِيۡنٌۙ‏ ١٣

But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth,

Inki gaflat kahan dur hoti hai? Inka haal to yeh hai ke in ke paas Rasool e mubeen aa gaya

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوۡا عَنۡهُ وَقَالُوۡا مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجۡنُوۡنٌ​ۘ‏ ١٤

yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.”

Phir bhi yeh uski taraf multafit na huey aur kaha ke “ yeh to sikhaya padaya bawla hai (well-tutored madman)”

اِنَّا كَاشِفُوا الۡعَذَابِ قَلِيۡلًا اِنَّكُمۡ عَآٮِٕدُوۡنَ​ۘ‏ ١٥

Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways.

Hum zara azaab hataye detay hain, tum log phir wahi kuch karoge jo pehle kar rahe thay

يَوۡمَ نَبۡطِشُ الۡبَطۡشَةَ الۡكُبۡـرٰى​ۚ اِنَّا مُنۡتَقِمُوۡنَ‏ ١٦

The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution.

Jis roz hum badi zarb (assault) lagayenge woh din hoga jab hum tumse intiqaam lenge

وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ كَرِيۡمٌۙ‏  ١٧

Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them

Hum insey pehle Firaun ki qaum ko isi aazmaish mein daal chuke hain. Unke paas ek nihayat shareef Rasool aaya

اَنۡ اَدُّوۡۤا اِلَىَّ عِبَادَ اللّٰهِ​ؕ اِنِّىۡ لَـكُمۡ رَسُوۡلٌ اَمِيۡنٌۙ‏  ١٨

(and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you,

Aur usne kaha “Allah ke bandon ko mere hawale karo, main tumhare liye ek amanat-daar Rasool hoon

وَّاَنۡ لَّا تَعۡلُوۡا عَلَى اللّٰهِ​ۚ اِنِّىۡۤ اٰتِيۡكُمۡ بِسُلۡطٰنٍ مُّبِيۡنٍ​ۚ‏  ١٩

and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger).

Allah ke muqable mein sarkashi na karo. Main tumhare saamne (apni maamuriyat ki) sareeh sanad (clear authority) pesh karta hoon

وَاِنِّىۡ عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّىۡ وَرَبِّكُمۡ اَنۡ تَرۡجُمُوۡنِ ۚ‏ ٢٠

I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones.

Aur main apne Rubb aur tumhare Rubb ki panaah le chuka hoon issey ke tum mujhpar hamla-awar (attack) ho

وَاِنۡ لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُوۡا لِىۡ فَاعۡتَزِلُوۡنِ‏ ٢١

But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).”

Agar tum meri baat nahin maante to mujhpar haath daalne se baaz raho”

فَدَعَا رَبَّهٗۤ اَنَّ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ قَوۡمٌ مُّجۡرِمُوۡنَ‏ ٢٢

Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.”

Aakhir e kaar usne apne Rubb ko pukara ke yeh log mujrim hain

فَاَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِىۡ لَيۡلًا اِنَّكُمۡ مُّتَّبَعُوۡنَۙ‏ ٢٣

(He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued.

(Jawab diya gaya) accha to raat-o-raat mere bandon (servants) ko lekar chal padh. Tum logon ka peecha kiya jayega

وَاتۡرُكِ الۡبَحۡرَ رَهۡوًا​ؕ اِنَّهُمۡ جُنۡدٌ مُّغۡرَقُوۡنَ‏ ٢٤

And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.”

Samandar ko uske haal par khula chodh de.Yeh saara lashkar garq (drown) honay wala hai

كَمۡ تَرَكُوۡا مِنۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّعُيُوۡنٍۙ‏ ٢٥

How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains

Kitne hi baag aur chasme

وَّزُرُوۡعٍ وَّمَقَامٍ كَرِيۡمٍۙ‏ ٢٦

and sown fields and splendid mansions,

Aur kheit (gardens) aur shaandaar mahal thay jo woh chodh gaye

وَّنَعۡمَةٍ كَانُوۡا فِيۡهَا فٰكِهِيۡنَۙ‏ ٢٧

and the life of ease in which they took delight!

Kitne hi aish ke sar-o-samaan, jin mein woh mazey kar rahey thay unke pichey dharay reh gaye

كَذٰلِكَ​ وَاَوۡرَثۡنٰهَا قَوۡمًا اٰخَرِيۡنَ‏ ٢٨

Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that.

Yeh hua unka anjaam, aur humne dusron ko in cheezon ka waris bana diya

فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ السَّمَآءُ وَالۡاَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُوۡا مُنۡظَرِيۡنَ‏  ٢٩

Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite.

Phir na aasman unpar roya na zameen, aur zara si mohalat bhi unko na di gayi

وَلَقَدۡ نَجَّيۡنَا بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ مِنَ الۡعَذَابِ الۡمُهِيۡنِۙ‏ ٣٠

Thus did We deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement,

Is taraah bani Israel ko humne sakht zillat ke azaab

مِنۡ فِرۡعَوۡنَ​ؕ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الۡمُسۡرِفِيۡنَ‏ ٣١

from Pharaoh who was most prominent among the prodigals.

Firoun se najaat di jo hadd se guzar janey walon mein fil waqeh badey unchey darje ka aadmi tha

وَلَقَدِ اخۡتَرۡنٰهُمۡ عَلٰى عِلۡمٍ عَلَى الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٣٢

We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world

Aur unki halat jaante huye, unko duniya ki dursi qaumon par tarjeeh di

وَاٰتَيۡنٰهُمۡ مِّنَ الۡاٰيٰتِ مَا فِيۡهِ بَلٰٓؤٌا مُّبِيۡنٌ‏ ٣٣

and bestowed upon them the Signs wherein lay an evident test for them.

Aur unhein aisi nishaniya dikhayi jin mein sareeh aazmaish thi

اِنَّ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ لَيَقُوۡلُوۡنَۙ‏ ٣٤

Indeed these people say:

Yeh log kehte hain

اِنۡ هِىَ اِلَّا مَوۡتَتُنَا الۡاُوۡلٰى وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُنۡشَرِيۡنَ‏ ٣٥

“This is our first and only death, and we shall never be raised again.

“hamari pehli maut ke siwa aur kuch nahin uske baad hum dobara uthaye jaane wale nahin hai

فَاۡتُوۡا بِاٰبَآٮِٕنَاۤ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰدِقِيۡنَ‏ ٣٦

Bring back to us our fathers if you are truthful.”

Agar tum sacchey ho to utha lao hamare baap dada ko”

اَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ اَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعٍۙ وَّ الَّذِيۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِهِمۡ​ؕ اَهۡلَكۡنٰهُمۡ​ اِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡا مُجۡرِمِيۡنَ‏ ٣٧

Are these better or the people of Tubba and those who went before them? We destroyed them for they were a criminal people.

Yeh behtar hai ya tubbah ki qaum aur ussey pehle ke log? Humne unko isi bina par tabah kiya ke woh mujrim ho gaye thay

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لٰعِبِيۡنَ‏ ٣٨

It was not in idle sport that We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them.

Yeh Aasman o zameen aur inke darmiyan ki cheezein humne kuch khel ke taur par nahin bana di hai

مَا خَلَقۡنٰهُمَاۤ اِلَّا بِالۡحَقِّ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏  ٣٩

We did not create them except in Truth. But most of them do not know.

Inko humne bar-haqq paida kiya hai, magar aksar log jaante hain hai

اِنَّ يَوۡمَ الۡفَصۡلِ مِيۡقَاتُهُمۡ اَجۡمَعِيۡنَۙ‏ ٤٠

The Day of Final Decision is the appointed time for all;

In sabke uthaye janey ke liye the-shuda waqt faisle ka din hai

يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِىۡ مَوۡلًى عَنۡ مَّوۡلًى شَيۡــًٔا وَّلَا هُمۡ يُنۡصَرُوۡنَۙ‏  ٤١

the Day when a friend shall be of no avail to his friend nor shall they be helped,

Woh din jab koi azeez kareeb apne kisi azeez kareeb ke kuch bhi kaam nahin aayega. Aur na kahin se unhein koi madad pahunchegi

اِلَّا مَنۡ رَّحِمَ اللّٰهُ​ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الرَّحِيۡمُ‏ ٤٢

except those to whom Allah shows mercy. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate.

Siwaye iske ke Allah hi kisi par reham karey, woh zabardast aur Raheem hai

اِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّوۡمِۙ‏ ٤٣

The tree of al-Zaqqum

Zakkhum ka darakht (tree)

طَعَامُ الۡاَثِيۡمِ ۛۚ   ۖ‏ ٤٤

shall be the food of the sinful.

Gunahgaar ka kha-ja (khana /food) hoga

كَالۡمُهۡلِ ۛۚ يَغۡلِىۡ فِى الۡبُطُوۡنِۙ‏ ٤٥

Like dregs of oil, it will boil in their bellies

Tail (oil) ki tiljhat (dregs) jaisa, pait (bellies) mein is tarah josh khayega

كَغَلۡىِ الۡحَمِيۡمِ‏ ٤٦

like boiling water.

Jaise khaulta (boiling) hua pani josh khata hai

خُذُوۡهُ فَاعۡتِلُوۡهُ اِلٰى سَوَآءِ الۡجَحِيۡمِ   ۖ‏ ٤٧

“Seize him and drag him to the middle of the Blazing Fire,

Pakado isey aur raged-te (dragging) huey le jao isko jahannum ke beechon beech

ثُمَّ صُبُّوۡا فَوۡقَ رَاۡسِهٖ مِنۡ عَذَابِ الۡحَمِيۡمِؕ‏ ٤٨

then pour boiling water over his head as chastisement.

Aur undhail (pour) do iske sar par khaulte (boiling) paani ka azaab

ذُقۡ ۖۚ اِنَّكَ اَنۡتَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡكَرِيۡمُ‏ ٤٩

Taste this, you are a person mighty and noble!

Chakkh iska maza, bada zabardast izzatdaar aadmi hai tu

اِنَّ هٰذَا مَا كُنۡتُمۡ بِهٖ تَمۡتَرُوۡنَ‏ ٥٠

This is what you used to doubt.”

Yeh wahi cheez hai jiske aane mein tumlog shakk rakhte thay”

اِنَّ الۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ فِىۡ مَقَامٍ اَمِيۡنٍۙ‏ ٥١

Verily the God-fearing shall be in a secure place

Khuda tars log aman ki jagah mein hongey

فِىۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّعُيُوۡنٍ ۙ ۚ‏ ٥٢

amidst gardens and springs.

Baaghon (gardens) aur chashmo mein

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

يَّلۡبَسُوۡنَ مِنۡ سُنۡدُسٍ وَّاِسۡتَبۡرَقٍ مُّتَقٰبِلِيۡنَۚ ۙ‏ ٥٣

Attired in silk and brocade, they shall be arrayed face to face.

Hareer-o-deeba (silk and brocade) ke libas pehne, aamne saamne baithey honge

كَذٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجۡنٰهُمۡ بِحُوۡرٍ عِيۡنٍؕ‏ ٥٤

Thus shall it be: and We shall espouse them to fair, wide-eyed maidens.

Yeh hogi inki shaan aur hum gori gori aah-o-chashm auratein unse biyah denge

يَدۡعُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ اٰمِنِيۡنَۙ‏ ٥٥

While resting in security, they shall call for all kinds of fruit.

Wahan woh itminaan se har tarah ki lazeez cheezein talab karenge

لَا يَذُوۡقُوۡنَ فِيۡهَا الۡمَوۡتَ اِلَّا الۡمَوۡتَةَ الۡاُوۡلٰى​ ۚ وَوَقٰٮهُمۡ عَذَابَ الۡجَحِيۡمِۙ‏ ٥٦

They shall not taste death except the death in this world. And Allah will save them from the chastisement of Hell

Wahan maut ka maza woh kabhi na chakhenge . Bas duniya mein jo maut aa chuki so aa chuki aur Allah apne fazal se

فَضۡلًا مِّنۡ رَّبِّكَ ​ؕ ذٰ لِكَ هُوَ الۡفَوۡزُ الۡعَظِيۡمُ‏ ٥٧

as a favour from your Lord. That is the great triumph.

Unko jahannum ke azaab se bacha dega yahi badi kamiyabi hai

فَاِنَّمَا يَسَّرۡنٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَكَّرُوۡنَ‏ ٥٨

(O Prophet), We have made this Book easy in your tongue so that they may take heed.

Aey Nabi (s.a.s) humne is kitaab ko tumhari zubaan mein sahal (easy / aasaan) bana diya hai taake yeh log nasihat hasil karein
