Surah 89

089 surah

وَالۡفَجۡرِۙ‏ ١

By the dawn,

Kasam hai fajr ki

وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٍۙ‏ ٢

and the ten nights,

Aur dus raaton ki

وَّالشَّفۡعِ وَالۡوَتۡرِۙ‏ ٣

and the even and the odd,

Aur jufft(even) aur taaq(odd) ki

وَالَّيۡلِ اِذَا يَسۡرِ​ۚ‏ ٤

and by the night when it departs.

Aur Raat ki jabke woh ruksat ho rahi ho

هَلۡ فِىۡ ذٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِىۡ حِجۡرٍؕ‏ ٥

Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding?

kya ismein kisi sahib-e-aqal ke liye koi kasam hai

اَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍۙ‏ ٦

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad

Tumne dekha nahin ke tumhare Rubb ne kya bartao kiya

اِرَمَ ذَاتِ الۡعِمَادِۙ‏ ٧

of Iram, known for their lofty columns,

Unchey sutuno waley Aad-e-iram kay saath

الَّتِىۡ لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِى الۡبِلَادِۙ‏ ٨

the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world?

Jinke manind koi qaum duniya kay mulkon mein paida nahin ki gayi thi

وَثَمُوۡدَ الَّذِيۡنَ جَابُوا الصَّخۡرَ بِالۡوَادِۙ‏ ٩

And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley?

Aur Samood ke saath jinhon ne wadi mei chattane tarashi thi

وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِى الۡاَوۡتَادِۙ‏ ١٠

And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs

Aur mekhon waley Firoun kay saath

الَّذِيۡنَ طَغَوۡا فِى الۡبِلَادِۙ‏ ١١

who transgressed in the countries of the world

Yeh woh log (thay) jinhone duniya kay mulkon mein badi sarkashi ki thi

فَاَكۡثَرُوۡا فِيۡهَا الۡفَسَادَۙ‏ ١٢

spreading in them much corruption?

Aur inmein bahut fasaad failaya tha

فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ ۙۚ‏ ١٣

Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement.

Aakhir-e-kaar tumhare Rubb ne inpar azaab ka koda barsa diya

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالۡمِرۡصَادِؕ‏ ١٤

Truly your Lord is ever watchful.

Haqeeqat yeh hai kay tumhara Rubb ghaath(watchful) lagaye huey hai

فَاَمَّا الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِذَا مَا ابۡتَلٰٮهُ رَبُّهٗ فَاَكۡرَمَهٗ وَنَعَّمَهٗ  ۙ فَيَقُوۡلُ رَبِّىۡۤ اَكۡرَمَنِؕ‏ ١٥

As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.”

Magar Insan ka haal yeh hai kay uska Rubb jab usko aazmaish mein daalta hai aur usey izzat aur niyamat deta hai to woh kehta hai kay mere Rubb ne mujhey izzatdar bana diya

وَاَمَّاۤ اِذَا مَا ابۡتَلٰٮهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهٗ ۙ فَيَقُوۡلُ رَبِّىۡۤ اَهَانَنِ​ۚ‏ ١٦

But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.”

Aur jab woh usko azmaish mein daalta hai aur uska rizq uspar tangg kar deta hai to woh kehta hai mere Rubb ne mujhey zaleel kar diya

كَلَّا​ بَلۡ لَّا تُكۡرِمُوۡنَ الۡيَتِيۡمَۙ‏ ١٧

But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably,

Hargiz nahin, balke tum yateem se izzat ka sulook nahin kartey

وَلَا تَحٰٓضُّوۡنَ عَلٰى طَعَامِ الۡمِسۡكِيۡنِۙ‏ ١٨

and do not urge one another to feed the poor,

Aur miskeen ko khana khilane par ek dusrey ko nahin uksatey

وَتَاۡكُلُوۡنَ التُّرَاثَ اَكۡلًا لَّـمًّا ۙ‏ ١٩

and greedily devour the entire inheritance,

Aur Miras(inheritance) ka sara maal sameith kar kha jatey ho

وَّتُحِبُّوۡنَ الۡمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا ؕ‏ ٢٠

and love the riches, loving them ardently.

Aur maal ki muhabbat mei buri tarah giraftar ho

كَلَّاۤ اِذَا دُكَّتِ الۡاَرۡضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا ۙ‏ ٢١

But no; when the earth is ground to powder,

Hargiz nahin jab zameen pai dar pai qoot qoot kar regzaar bana di jayegi

وَّجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَالۡمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا ۚ‏ ٢٢

and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels,

Aur tumahra Rubb jalwa farma hoga is haal mei kay farishtey saff dar saff khade hongey

وَجِاىْٓءَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍۢ بِجَهَنَّمَ  ۙ​ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ يَّتَذَكَّرُ الۡاِنۡسَانُ وَاَنّٰى لَـهُ الذِّكۡرٰىؕ‏ ٢٣

and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be?

Aur jahannum us roz samnay le aayi jaeygi, us din Insan ko samajh ayegi aur us waqt us ke samajhne ka kya hasil

يَقُوۡلُ يٰلَيۡتَنِىۡ قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَـيَاتِى​ۚ‏ ٢٤

He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!”

Woh kahega ke kaash maine apni is zindagi ke liye kuch peshgi saman kiya hota

فَيَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهٗۤ اَحَدٌ ۙ‏ ٢٥

Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise;

Phir us din Allah jo azaab dega waisa azaab dene wala koi nahin

وَّلَا يُوۡثِقُ وَثَاقَهٗۤ اَحَدٌ ؕ‏ ٢٦

and Allah will bind as none other can bind.

Aur Allah jaisa bandhega waisa bandhne wala koi nahin

يٰۤاَيَّتُهَا النَّفۡسُ الۡمُطۡمَٮِٕنَّةُ  ۖ‏ ٢٧

(On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul!

(Dusri taraf irshad hoga) Aey nafsey mutmain(reassured soul/pious)

ارۡجِعِىۡۤ اِلٰى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرۡضِيَّةً​ ۚ‏ ٢٨

Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord).

Chal apne Rubb ki taraf is haal mein ke tu (apne anjam-e-neik se) khush (Aur apne Rubb kay nazdeek) pasandida hai

فَادۡخُلِىۡ فِىۡ عِبٰدِىۙ‏ ٢٩

So enter among My (righteous) servants

Shamil ho ja mere (neik) bandon mein

وَادۡخُلِىۡ جَنَّتِى‏ ٣٠

and enter My Paradise.”

Aur dakhil hoja meri jannat mein
