عَبَسَ وَتَوَلّٰٓىۙ‏ ١

He frowned and turned away

اَنۡ جَآءَهُ الۡاَعۡمٰىؕ‏ ٢

that the blind man came to him.

80:3

وَمَا يُدۡرِيۡكَ لَعَلَّهٗ يَزَّكّٰٓىۙ‏ ٣

How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself,

Tumhe kya khabar, shayad woh sudhar jaye

80:4

اَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنۡفَعَهُ الذِّكۡرٰىؕ‏ ٤

or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him.

اَمَّا مَنِ اسۡتَغۡنٰىۙ‏ ٥

Now he who waxes indifferent,

فَاَنۡتَ لَهٗ تَصَدّٰىؕ‏ ٦

you attend to him,

Uski taraf to tum tawajjuh karte ho

وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ اَلَّا يَزَّكّٰٓىؕ‏ ٧

though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself.

Halaanke agar wo na sudhrey to tum par uski kya zimmedari hai

80:8

وَاَمَّا مَنۡ جَآءَكَ يَسۡعٰىۙ‏ ٨

But he who comes to you running,

Aur jo khud tumharey paas dauda aata hai

وَهُوَ يَخۡشٰىۙ‏ ٩

and fears (Allah),

فَاَنۡتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهّٰىۚ‏ ١٠

you pay no heed to him.

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٌ ۚ‏ ١١

No indeed; this is only a Reminder.

فَمَنۡ شَآءَ ذَكَرَهٗۘ‏ ١٢

So whoso wills may give heed to it.

فِىۡ صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍۙ‏ ١٣

It is contained in scrolls highly honoured,

مَّرۡفُوۡعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ ۭۙ‏ ١٤

most exalted and purified,

Buland martaba hain, pakeeza hain

80:15

بِاَيۡدِىۡ سَفَرَةٍۙ‏ ١٥

borne by the hands of scribes,

كِرَامٍۢ بَرَرَةٍؕ‏ ١٦

noble and purified.

قُتِلَ الۡاِنۡسَانُ مَاۤ اَكۡفَرَهٗؕ‏ ١٧

Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth.

Laanat ho Insan par kaisa sakht munkir-e-haq (denies the Truth) hai yeh

مِنۡ اَىِّ شَىۡءٍ خَلَقَهٗؕ‏ ١٨

Out of what did Allah create him?

80:19

مِنۡ نُّطۡفَةٍؕ خَلَقَهٗ فَقَدَّرَهٗ ۙ‏ ١٩

Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him,

Nutfa ki ek boondh se Allah ne isey paida kiya phir iski taqdeer muqarrar ki

80:20

ثُمَّ السَّبِيۡلَ يَسَّرَهٗۙ‏ ٢٠

and then made the course of life easy for him,

80:21

ثُمَّ اَمَاتَهٗ فَاَقۡبَرَهٗۙ‏ ٢١

then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave,

Phir isey maut di aur qabr mei pahunchaya

80:22

ثُمَّ اِذَا شَآءَ اَنۡشَرَهٗؕ‏ ٢٢

and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life.

Phir jab chahey woh isey dobara utha khada karey

80:23

كَلَّا لَـمَّا يَقۡضِ مَاۤ اَمَرَهٗؕ‏ ٢٣

Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him.

فَلۡيَنۡظُرِ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِلٰى طَعَامِهٖۤۙ‏ ٢٤

So let man just consider his food:

اَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا الۡمَآءَ صَبًّا ۙ‏ ٢٥

We poured water, pouring it in great abundance,

ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا الۡاَرۡضَ شَقًّا ۙ‏ ٢٦

and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder;

فَاَنۡۢبَتۡنَا فِيۡهَا حَبًّا ۙ‏ ٢٧

then caused the grain to grow out of it,

وَّ عِنَبًا وَّقَضۡبًا ۙ‏ ٢٨

together with grapes and vegetables,

وَّزَيۡتُوۡنًا وَّنَخۡلًا ؕ‏ ٢٩

and olives and palms,

وَحَدَآٮِٕقَ غُلۡبًا ۙ‏ ٣٠

and dense orchards,

وَّفَاكِهَةً وَّاَبًّا ۙ‏ ٣١

and fruits and pastures –

مَّتَاعًا لَّـكُمۡ وَلِاَنۡعَامِكُمۡؕ‏ ٣٢

all this as a provision for you and your cattle.

فَاِذَا جَآءَتِ الصَّآخَّةُ‏ ٣٣

But when the deafening cry shall be sounded

يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ الۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ اَخِيۡهِۙ‏ ٣٤

on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother,

وَاُمِّهٖ وَاَبِيۡهِۙ‏ ٣٥

and his mother and his father;

وَصَاحِبَتِهٖ وَبَنِيۡهِؕ‏ ٣٦

and his consort and his children;

80:37

لِكُلِّ امۡرِیءٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ شَاۡنٌ يُّغۡنِيۡهِؕ‏ ٣٧

on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself.

وُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ مُّسۡفِرَةٌ ۙ‏ ٣٨

Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness,

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٌ ۚ‏ ٣٩

and be cheerful and joyous.

وَوُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٌ ۙ‏ ٤٠

Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden,

تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ؕ‏ ٤١

enveloped by darkness.

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡكَفَرَةُ الۡفَجَرَةُ‏ ٤٢

These will be the unbelievers, the wicked.

وَهُوَ يَخۡشٰىۙ‏ ٩

فَاَنۡتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهّٰى​ۚ‏ ١٠

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٌ ۚ‏ ١١

فَمَنۡ شَآءَ ذَكَرَهٗ​ۘ‏ ١٢

فِىۡ صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍۙ‏ ١٣

مَّرۡفُوۡعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ ۭۙ‏ ١٤

بِاَيۡدِىۡ سَفَرَةٍۙ‏ ١٥

كِرَامٍۢ بَرَرَةٍؕ‏ ١٦

قُتِلَ الۡاِنۡسَانُ مَاۤ اَكۡفَرَهٗؕ‏ ١٧

مِنۡ اَىِّ شَىۡءٍ خَلَقَهٗؕ‏ ١٨

مِنۡ نُّطۡفَةٍؕ خَلَقَهٗ فَقَدَّرَهٗ ۙ‏ ١٩

ثُمَّ السَّبِيۡلَ يَسَّرَهٗۙ‏ ٢٠

ثُمَّ اَمَاتَهٗ فَاَقۡبَرَهٗۙ‏ ٢١

ثُمَّ اِذَا شَآءَ اَنۡشَرَهٗؕ‏ ٢٢

كَلَّا لَـمَّا يَقۡضِ مَاۤ اَمَرَهٗؕ‏ ٢٣

فَلۡيَنۡظُرِ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِلٰى طَعَامِهٖۤۙ‏ ٢٤

اَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا الۡمَآءَ صَبًّا ۙ‏ ٢٥

ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا الۡاَرۡضَ شَقًّا ۙ‏ ٢٦

فَاَنۡۢبَتۡنَا فِيۡهَا حَبًّا ۙ‏ ٢٧

وَّ عِنَبًا وَّقَضۡبًا ۙ‏ ٢٨

وَّزَيۡتُوۡنًا وَّنَخۡلًا ؕ‏ ٢٩

وَحَدَآٮِٕقَ غُلۡبًا ۙ‏ ٣٠

وَّفَاكِهَةً وَّاَبًّا ۙ‏ ٣١

مَّتَاعًا لَّـكُمۡ وَلِاَنۡعَامِكُمۡؕ‏ ٣٢

فَاِذَا جَآءَتِ الصَّآخَّةُ‏ ٣٣

يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ الۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ اَخِيۡهِۙ‏ ٣٤

وَاُمِّهٖ وَاَبِيۡهِۙ‏ ٣٥

وَصَاحِبَتِهٖ وَبَنِيۡهِؕ‏ ٣٦

لِكُلِّ امۡرِیءٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ شَاۡنٌ يُّغۡنِيۡهِؕ‏ ٣٧

وُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ مُّسۡفِرَةٌ ۙ‏ ٣٨

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٌ ۚ‏ ٣٩

وَوُجُوۡهٌ يَّوۡمَٮِٕذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٌ ۙ‏ ٤٠

تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ؕ‏ ٤١

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡكَفَرَةُ الۡفَجَرَةُ‏ ٤٢
