Surah 51

051 surah

وَالذّٰرِيٰتِ ذَرۡوًا ۙ‏ ١

By the winds which scatter dust,

Kasam hai un hawaon ki jo gard (dust) udane wali hain

فَالۡحٰمِلٰتِ وِقۡرًا ۙ‏ ٢

which carry clouds laden with water,

Phir pani se ladeh huey badal uthane wali hain

فَالۡجٰرِيٰتِ يُسۡرًا ۙ‏ ٣

which then smoothly speed along,

Phir subuk raftari (smoothly speed along) ke saath chalne wali hain

فَالۡمُقَسِّمٰتِ اَمۡرًا ۙ‏ ٤

and execute the great task of apportioning (rainfall):

Phir ek baday kaam (barish) ki taqseem karne wali hain

اِنَّمَا تُوۡعَدُوۡنَ لَصَادِقٌ ۙ‏ ٥

surely what you are being warned against is true,

Haqq yeh hai ke jis cheez ka tumhein khauf dilaya ja raha hai woh sacchi hai

وَّاِنَّ الدِّيۡنَ لوَاقِعٌ ؕ‏ ٦

and the Judgement shall doubtlessly take place.

Aur jazaa-e-aamal (recompense) zaroor pesh aani hai

وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ الۡحُـبُكِ ۙ‏ ٧

By the heaven with its numerous forms:

Kasam hai muttafarriq shakalon(numerous forms) waley aasmaan ki

اِنَّـكُمۡ لَفِىۡ قَوۡلٍ مُّخۡتَلِفٍ ۙ‏ ٨

surely you are at variance (about the Hereafter);

(Aakhirat ke barey mein) tumhari baat ek durse se mukhtalif hai

يُّـؤۡفَكُ عَنۡهُ مَنۡ اُفِكَ ؕ‏ ٩

though only those who are averse to the Truth will turn away from (believing in it).

Ussey wahi bargashta (deluded/averse) hota hai jo haqq se phira hua hai

قُتِلَ الۡخَـرّٰصُوۡنَۙ‏ ١٠

Doomed are the conjecturers

Maarey gaye qayas-o-gumaan (conjecturers) se hukum lagane wale

الَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ فِىۡ غَمۡرَةٍ سَاهُوۡنَۙ‏ ١١

who are steeped in ignorance and heedlessness.

Jo jihalat(ignorance) mein garq aur gaflat mein madhosh hain

يَسۡـَٔــلُوۡنَ اَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ الدِّيۡنِؕ‏ ١٢

They ask: “When will the Day of Judgement be?”

Puchte hain aakhir woh roz-e-jaza kab aayega

يَوۡمَ هُمۡ عَلَى النَّارِ يُفۡتَنُوۡنَ‏ ١٣

It will be the Day when they shall be scourged by the Fire

Woh us roz aayega jab yeh log aag par tapaye jayenge

ذُوۡقُوۡا فِتۡنَتَكُمۡؕ هٰذَا الَّذِىۡ كُنۡتُمۡ بِهٖ تَسۡتَعۡجِلُوۡنَ‏ ١٤

(and be told): “Taste your ordeal! This is what you were seeking to hasten.”

(Insey kaha jayega) ab chakkho maza apne fitne ka, yeh wahi cheez hai jiske liye tum jaldi macha rahey thay

اِنَّ الۡمُتَّقِيۡنَ فِىۡ جَنّٰتٍ وَّعُيُوۡنٍۙ‏ ١٥

As for the God-fearing, they shall be in the midst of gardens and fountains,

Albatta muttaqi log us roz baaghon(gardens) aur chashmo (fountains) mein hongey

اٰخِذِيۡنَ مَاۤ اٰتٰٮهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ​ؕ اِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡا قَبۡلَ ذٰلِكَ مُحۡسِنِيۡنَؕ‏  ١٦

joyously receiving what their Lord will have granted them. Verily they did good works before (the coming of this Day):

Jo kuch unka Rubb unhein dega usey khushi khushi le rahey hongey. Woh us din ke aane se pehle neikukar (doers of good) thay

كَانُوۡا قَلِيۡلًا مِّنَ الَّيۡلِ مَا يَهۡجَعُوۡنَ‏ ١٧

they used to sleep but little by night,

Raaton(nights) ko kam hi sotey(sleep) thay

وَبِالۡاَسۡحَارِ هُمۡ يَسۡتَغۡفِرُوۡنَ‏ ١٨

and would ask for forgiveness at dawn,

Phir wahi raat ke pichle peharon mein maafi maangte thay

وَفِىۡۤ اَمۡوَالِهِمۡ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّآٮِٕلِ وَالۡمَحۡرُوۡمِ‏ ١٩

and in their wealth there was a rightful share for him who would ask and for the destitute.

Aur unke maalon(wealth) mein haqq tha saahil( maangne waley) aur mehroom(destitute) ke liye

وَفِى الۡاَرۡضِ اٰيٰتٌ لِّلۡمُوۡقِنِيۡنَۙ‏ ٢٠

There are many Signs on earth for those of sure faith,

Zameen mein bahut si nishaniyan hain yaqeen laney walon ke liye

وَفِىۡۤ اَنۡفُسِكُمۡ​ؕ اَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُوۡنَ‏ ٢١

and also in your own selves. Do you not see?

Aur khud tumhare apne wajood mein hain, kya tumko soojhta nahin

وَفِى السَّمَآءِ رِزۡقُكُمۡ وَمَا تُوۡعَدُوۡنَ‏ ٢٢

And in heaven is your provision and also what you are being promised.

Aasman hi mein hai tumhara rizq bhi aur woh cheez bhi jiska tumse waada kiya ja raha hai

فَوَرَبِّ السَّمَآءِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ اِنَّهٗ لَحَـقٌّ مِّثۡلَ مَاۤ اَنَّكُمۡ تَنۡطِقُوۡنَ‏ ٢٣

So, by the Lord of the heaven and the earth, this is certainly true, as true as the fact of your speaking.

Pas kasam hai aasmaan aur zameen ke maalik ki, yeh baat haqq hai, aisi hi yaqeeni jaise tum bol rahey ho

هَلۡ اَتٰٮكَ حَدِيۡثُ ضَيۡفِ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ الۡمُكۡرَمِيۡنَ​ۘ‏ ٢٤

(O Prophet), did the story of Abraham’s honoured guests reach you?

Aey Nabi, Ibrahim ke muazzaz mehmano ki hiqayat bhi tumhein pahunchi hai

اِذۡ دَخَلُوۡا عَلَيۡهِ فَقَالُوۡا سَلٰمًا​ؕ قَالَ سَلٰمٌ ۚ قَوۡمٌ مُّنۡكَرُوۡنَ​‏  ٢٥

When they came to him, they said: “Peace”; he said: “Peace also be to you; (you seem to be) a group of strangers.”

Jab woh uske haan (yahan) aaye to kaha aapko salaam hai. Usne kaha “ aap logon ko bhi salaam hai kuch na-aashna se log hain”

فَرَاغَ اِلٰٓى اَهۡلِهٖ فَجَآءَ بِعِجۡلٍ سَمِيۡنٍۙ‏ ٢٦

Then he went back to his family and brought a fat roasted calf

Phir woh chupke se apne ghar walon ke paas gaya, aur ek mota taaza bachda (calf) laa kar

فَقَرَّبَهٗۤ اِلَيۡهِمۡ قَالَ اَلَا تَاۡكُلُوۡنَ‏ ٢٧

and laid it before them, saying: “Will you not eat?”

Mehmanon ke aage pesh kiya. Usne kaha aap hazraat khate nahin

فَاَوۡجَسَ مِنۡهُمۡ خِيۡفَةً ​ؕ قَالُوۡا لَا تَخَفۡ​ ؕ وَبَشَّرُوۡهُ بِغُلٰمٍ عَلِيۡمٍ‏ ٢٨

Then he became afraid of them. They said: “Fear not,” and announced to him the good news of (the birth of) a boy endowed with knowledge.

Phir woh apne dil mein unse dara. Unhon ne kaha dariye nahin, aur usey ek zee-ilm ladke ki paidaish ka mushda (good news/basharat) sunaya

فَاَقۡبَلَتِ امۡرَاَتُهٗ فِىۡ صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتۡ وَجۡهَهَا وَقَالَتۡ عَجُوۡزٌ عَقِيۡمٌ‏ ٢٩

So hearing his wife went forth shouting. She struck her face and exclaimed: “A barren old woman am I.”

Yeh sunkar uski biwi cheekhti hui aage badhi aur usne apna mooh peeth liya aur kehne lagi, “boodhi baanj”

قَالُوۡا كَذٰلِكِ ۙ قَالَ رَبُّكِ​ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ الۡحَكِيۡمُ الۡعَلِيۡمُ‏  ٣٠

They said: “So has your Lord said (that you shall have a boy). Surely He is Most Wise, All-Knowing.”

Unhon ne kaha “yahi kuch farmaya hai tere Rubb ne. Woh hakeem hai aur sab kuch jaanta hai

قَالَ فَمَا خَطۡبُكُمۡ اَيُّهَا الۡمُرۡسَلُوۡنَ‏ ٣١

Abraham said: “Envoys (of Allah), what is your errand?”

Ibrahim ne kaha “aey farstaadgaan-e-ilaahi (envoys), kya mohim aapko dar-pesh hai

قَالُـوۡۤا اِنَّاۤ اُرۡسِلۡنَاۤ اِلٰى قَوۡمٍ مُّجۡرِمِيۡنَۙ‏ ٣٢

They replied: “Behold, we have been sent to a wicked people

Unhon ne kaha “hum ek mujrim qaum ki taraf bheje gaye hain

لِنُرۡسِلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةً مِّنۡ طِيۡنٍۙ‏ ٣٣

that we may unleash a shower of clay-stones

Taa-ke uspar paki hui mitti ke patthar (clay-stones) barsa de

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

مُّسَوَّمَةً عِنۡدَ رَبِّكَ لِلۡمُسۡرِفِيۡنَ‏ ٣٤

marked by your Lord upon those who go beyond the limits.”

Jo aapke Rubb ke haan hadd se guzar jane walon ke liye nishan zada hain”

فَاَخۡرَجۡنَا مَنۡ كَانَ فِيۡهَا مِنَ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٣٥

Then We evacuated there from all the believers

Phir humne un sab logon ko nikal liya jo us basti mein momin thay

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

فَمَا وَجَدۡنَا فِيۡهَا غَيۡرَ بَيۡتٍ مِّنَ الۡمُسۡلِمِيۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٣٦

– and We did not find there any, apart from a single house of Muslims –

Aur wahan humne ek ghar ke siwa musalmano ka koi ghar na paya

وَتَرَكۡنَا فِيۡهَاۤ اٰيَةً لِّـلَّذِيۡنَ يَخَافُوۡنَ الۡعَذَابَ الۡاَلِيۡمَؕ‏  ٣٧

and We left therein a Sign for those who fear the grievous chastisement.

Uske baad humne wahan bas ek nishani un logon ke liye chodh di jo dardnaak azaab se darte hon

وَفِىۡ مُوۡسٰۤی اِذۡ اَرۡسَلۡنٰهُ اِلٰى فِرۡعَوۡنَ بِسُلۡطٰنٍ مُّبِيۡنٍ‏ ٣٨

There is also a Sign for you in the story of Moses when We sent him with a clear authority to Pharaoh.

Aur (tumhare liye nishani hai) Moosa ke qissey mein jab humne usey sareeh sanad (clear authority) ke saath Firoun ke paas bheja

فَتَوَلّٰى بِرُكۡنِهٖ وَقَالَ سٰحِرٌ اَوۡ مَجۡنُوۡنٌ‏ ٣٩

But Pharaoh turned away, showing arrogance on account of his power, and said (about Moses): “He is either a sorcerer or a madman.”

To woh apne bal-bootay par akad gaya aur bola yeh jaadugar hai ya majnoon(deewana) hai

فَاَخَذۡنٰهُ وَجُنُوۡدَهٗ فَنَبَذۡنٰهُمۡ فِى الۡيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيۡمٌؕ‏ ٤٠

So We seized him and his hosts, and cast them into the sea. He became an object of much blame.

Aakhir-e-kaar humne usey aur uske lashkaron ko pakda aur sabko samandar mein phenk diya aur woh malamat zadah hokar reh gaya

وَفِىۡ عَادٍ اِذۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمُ الرِّيۡحَ الۡعَقِيۡمَ​ۚ‏ ٤١

There is also a Sign for you in (the story of) Ad, when We let loose upon them an ominous wind

Aur (tumhare liye nishani hai) Aad (people of Aad) mein, jabke humne unpar ek aisi hi bay-khair(devastating) hawa bhej di

مَا تَذَرُ مِنۡ شَىۡءٍ اَتَتۡ عَلَيۡهِ اِلَّا جَعَلَتۡهُ كَالرَّمِيۡمِؕ‏ ٤٢

that left nothing that it came upon without reducing it to rubble.

Ke jis cheez par bhi woh guzar gayi usey boseeda (rotten) karke rakh diya

وَفِىۡ ثَمُوۡدَ اِذۡ قِيۡلَ لَهُمۡ تَمَتَّعُوۡا حَتّٰى حِيۡنٍ‏ ٤٣

There is also a Sign for you in (the story of) Thamud. They were told: “Enjoy yourselves for a while.”

Aur (tumhare liye nishani hai) Samood mein, jab unse kaha gaya tha ke ek khaas waqt tak mazey karlo

فَعَتَوۡا عَنۡ اَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَاَخَذَتۡهُمُ الصّٰعِقَةُ وَ هُمۡ يَنۡظُرُوۡنَ‏  ٤٤

But they brazenly disobeyed their Lord’s command, and then a sudden chastisement overtook them while they looked on.

Magar is tambeeh(warning) par bhi unhon ne apne Rubb ke hukum se sartabi (brazenly disobey) ki. Aakhir-e-kar unke dekhte dekhte ek achanak toot padne waley azaab ne unko aa liya

فَمَا اسۡتَطَاعُوۡا مِنۡ قِيَامٍ وَّمَا كَانُوۡا مُنۡتَصِرِيۡنَۙ‏ ٤٥

They were unable even to stand up or protect themselves.

Phir na unmein uthne ki sakat thi aur na woh apna bachao kar sakte thay

وَقَوۡمَ نُوۡحٍ مِّنۡ قَبۡلُ​ؕ اِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۡا قَوۡمًا فٰسِقِيۡنَ‏ ٤٦

Before all these We destroyed the people of Noah: they were a wicked people.

Aur in sabse pehle humne Nooh ki qaum ko halaak kiya kyunke woh fasiq (wicked) log thay

وَ السَّمَآءَ بَنَيۡنٰهَا بِاَيۡٮدٍ وَّاِنَّا لَمُوۡسِعُوۡنَ‏ ٤٧

And heaven – We made it with Our Own Power and We have the Power to do so.

Aasman ko humne apne zoar se banaya hai aur hum iski qudrat rakhte hain

وَالۡاَرۡضَ فَرَشۡنٰهَا فَنِعۡمَ الۡمٰهِدُوۡنَ‏ ٤٨

And the earth – We spread it out, and how well have We smoothed it!

Zameen ko humne bichaya hai aur hum badey acchey hamwar(Smoothers/ spread) karne waley hain

وَمِنۡ كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَا زَوۡجَيۡنِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُوۡنَ‏ ٤٩

And of everything We have created pairs; perhaps you will take heed.

Aur har cheez ke humne jodey banaye hain, shayad ke tum ussey sabaq lo

فَفِرُّوۡۤا اِلَى اللّٰهِ​ؕ اِنِّىۡ لَـكُمۡ مِّنۡهُ نَذِيۡرٌ مُّبِيۡنٌ​ۚ‏  ٥٠

Flee, therefore, to Allah. Surely I am a clear warner to you from Him;

To daudo Allah ki taraf , main tumahre liye us ki taraf se saaf saaf khabardar karne wala hoon

وَلَا تَجۡعَلُوۡا مَعَ اللّٰهِ اِلٰهًا اٰخَرَ​ؕ اِنِّىۡ لَـكُمۡ مِّنۡهُ نَذِيۡرٌ مُّبِيۡنٌ​ۚ‏ ٥١

and do not set up any deity with Allah. Surely I am a clear warner to you from Him.

Aur na banao Allah ke saath koi dusra mabood. Main tumahre liye uski taraf se saaf saaf khabardar karne wala hoon

كَذٰلِكَ مَاۤ اَتَى الَّذِيۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِهِمۡ مِّنۡ رَّسُوۡلٍ اِلَّا قَالُوۡا سَاحِرٌ اَوۡ مَجۡنُوۡنٌ​ۚ‏ ٥٢

Thus has it been (in the past): never did a Messenger come to the nations that preceded them but they said: “(He is) a sorcerer, or a mad-man.”

Yunhi hota raha hai, inse pehle ki qaumon ke paas bhi koi Rasool aisa nahin aaya jisey unhon ne yeh na kaha ho ke yeh saahir (sorcerer) hai ya majnoon(deewana)

اَتَوَاصَوۡا بِهٖ​ۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٌ طَاغُوۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٥٣

Have they arrived at a common understanding concerning this? No; but they are a people given to transgression.

Kya in sab ne apas mein ispar koi samjhauta karliya hai? Nahin, balke yeh sab sarkash log hain

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ فَمَاۤ اَنۡتَ بِمَلُوۡمٍ‏ ٥٤

So turn your attention away from them; you shall incur no blame.

Pas aey Nabi, inse rukh pher lo, tumpar kuch malamat nahin

وَّذَكِّرۡ فَاِنَّ الذِّكۡرٰى تَنۡفَعُ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ‏ ٥٥

Do, however, keep exhorting them; for exhortation benefits those endowed with faith.

Albatta nasihat karte raho, kyunke nasihat imaan laney walon ke liye nafeh(faiyda-mand) hai

وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ الۡجِنَّ وَالۡاِنۡسَ اِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُوۡنِ‏ ٥٦

I created the jinn and humans for nothing else but that they may serve Me;

Maine Jinn aur Insano ko iske siwa kisi kaam ke liye paida nahin kiya hai ke woh meri bandagi karein

مَاۤ اُرِيۡدُ مِنۡهُمۡ مِّنۡ رِّزۡقٍ وَّمَاۤ اُرِيۡدُ اَنۡ يُّطۡعِمُوۡنِ‏  ٥٧

I desire from them no provision, nor do I want them to feed Me.

Main unsey koi rizq nahin chahta aur na yeh chahta hoon ke woh mujhey khilayein

اِنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الۡقُوَّةِ الۡمَتِيۡنُ‏ ٥٨

Surely Allah is the Bestower of all provision, the Lord of all power, the Strong.

The wrong-doers shall receive a portion of the chastisements as their fellows (of yore). So let them not rush Me.
