The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Qayamat ki ghadi kareeb aa gayi aur chaand phatt (split) gaya

(Regardless of any Signs these people see), they turn away and say: “This is an ongoing sorcery.”

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Magar in logon ka haal yeh hai ke khwa koi nishani dekh lein mooh moadh jaatey hain aur kehte hain yeh to chalta hua jaadu hai

They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Inhon ne (isko bhi) jhutla diya aur apni khwahishat-e-nafs hi ki pairwi ki.Har maamlay ko Aakhir-e-kaar ek anjaam par pahunch kar rehna hai

Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression),

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

In logon ke saamne (pichle qaumon ke) woh halaat aa chuke hain jinmein sarkashi se baaz rakhne ke liye kafi samaan-e-ibrat hai

narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur aisi hikmat jo nasihat ke maqsad ko ba-darja-e-atam (consummate wisdom) pura karti hain magar tambihat(warnings) in par kaargar nahin hoti

So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Pas aey Nabi, insey rukh pher lo. Jis roz pukarne wala ek sakht nagawaar cheez ki taraf pukarega

with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Log sehmi hui (down-cast) nigaahon ke saath apni qabraon se is tarah niklenge goya woh bikhri huyi tiddiyan (locusts) hain

They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.”

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Pukarne wale ki taraf daudey jaa rahey hongey Aur wahi munkireen (jo duniya mein iska inkar karte thay)us waqt kahenge ke yeh din to bada kathin hai

Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Insey pehle Nooh ki qaum jhutla chuki hai. Unhon ne hamare bandey ko jhoota karar diya aur kaha ke yeh deewana hai, aur woh buri tarah jhidka (rebuffed) gaya

Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.”

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aakhir-e-kaar usne apne Rubb ko pukara ke “main magloob ho chuka , ab tu inse inteqam le”

Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Tab humne mausla-dhaar baarish se aasmaan ke darwaze khol diye aur zameen ko phaad kar chasmon mein tabdeel kar diya

and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur yeh saara paani us kaam ko pura karne ke liye mil gaya jo mukaddar ho chuka tha

And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur Nooh ko humne ek takhaton(planks) aur keelon (nails) wali par sawar kar diya

which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude.

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Jo hamari nigrani mein chal rahi thi .yeh tha badla us shaks ki khatir jiski na-qadri ki gayi thi

And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed?

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Us kashti ko humne ek nishani bana kar chodh diya, phir koi hai nasihat qabool karne wala

So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings!

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Dekhlo, kaisa tha mera azaab aur kaisi thi meri tambihaat (warnings)

— Abul Ala Maududi (Roman Urdu)

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aad ne jhutlaya, to dekhlo ke kaisa tha mera azaab aur kaisi thi meri tambihaat (warnings)

We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune,

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Humne ek paiham nahusat (unremitting misfortune) ke din sakht toofani hawa unpar bhej di jo logon ko utha utha kar is tarah phenk rahi thi

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Jaise woh jadd (roots) se ukhade huey khajoor ke taney (trunks) hon

— A. Maududi (English Tafhim commentary)

Aur kehne lagey “Ek akela aadmi jo hum hi mein se hai kya ab hum uske peechey chalein? Iska ittibaah hum qabool karlein to iske maani yeh hongey ke hum behak gaye hain aur hamari aqal maari gayi hai

Was there none but he to whom the Reminder could be vouchsafed excluding all others? Nay; he is an insolent liar.”
