Surah 70

070 surah

سَاَلَ سَآٮِٕلٌ ۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَّاقِعٍۙ‏ ١

A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement,

Mangne waley ne azaab maanga hai (woh azaab) jo zaroor waqey honay wala hai

لِّلۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ لَيۡسَ لَهٗ دَافِعٌ ۙ‏ ٢

(a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert;

Kafiron ke liye hai, koi usey dafa karne wala nahin

مِّنَ اللّٰهِ ذِى الۡمَعَارِجِؕ‏ ٣

a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps,

Us khuda ki taraf se hai jo urooj ke zeeno (ascending steps)ka malik hai

تَعۡرُجُ الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ وَ الرُّوۡحُ اِلَيۡهِ فِىۡ يَوۡمٍ كَانَ مِقۡدَارُهٗ خَمۡسِيۡنَ اَلۡفَ سَنَةٍ​ۚ‏ ٤

by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years.

Malaika (angels) aur rooh(Jibrael) uske huzoor chadh kar jatey hain ek aise din mein jiski miqdar pacchas (fifty) hazar saal hai

فَاصۡبِرۡ صَبۡرًا جَمِيۡلًا‏ ٥

So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance.

Pas aey Nabi, sabr karo, shaista sabr

اِنَّهُمۡ يَرَوۡنَهٗ بَعِيۡدًا ۙ‏ ٦

Verily they think that the chastisement is far off,

Yeh log usey dur samajhte hain

وَّنَرٰٮهُ قَرِيۡبًا ؕ‏ ٧

while We think that it is near at hand.

Aur hum usey qareeb dekh rahey hain

يَوۡمَ تَكُوۡنُ السَّمَآءُ كَالۡمُهۡلِۙ‏ ٨

It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass,

(woh azaab us roz hoga) jis roz aasman pigli huye chandi ki tarah ho jayega

وَتَكُوۡنُ الۡجِبَالُ كَالۡعِهۡنِۙ‏ ٩

and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool,

Aur pahad rang-bi-rang ke dhunke huey oon (wool) jaise ho jayenge

وَلَا يَسۡـَٔـلُ حَمِيۡمٌ حَمِيۡمًا ۖۚ‏ ١٠

and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends

Aur koi jigri dost apne jigri dost ko na puchega

يُّبَصَّرُوۡنَهُمۡ​ؕ يَوَدُّ الۡمُجۡرِمُ لَوۡ يَفۡتَدِىۡ مِنۡ عَذَابِ يَوۡمِٮِٕذٍۢ بِبَنِيۡهِۙ‏ ١١

although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children,

Halaanke woh ek dusre ko dikhaye jayenge, mujrim chahega ke us din ke azaab se bachne ke liye apni aulad ko

وَ صَاحِبَتِهٖ وَاَخِيۡهِۙ‏ ١٢

and his spouse and his brother,

Apni biwi ko, apne bhai ko

وَفَصِيۡلَتِهِ الَّتِىۡ تُــْٔوِيۡهِۙ‏ ١٣

and his kinsfolk who had stood by him,

Apne qareeb-tareen khandaan ko jo usey panaah dene wala tha

وَمَنۡ فِى الۡاَرۡضِ جَمِيۡعًا ۙ ثُمَّ يُنۡجِيۡهِۙ‏ ١٤

and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself.

Aur rooh-e-zameen ke sab logon ko fidiya (badle) mein dey-de aur yeh tadbeer usey nijaat dila de

كَلَّا ؕ اِنَّهَا لَظٰىۙ‏ ١٥

By no means! It will be the fierce flame

Hargiz nahin woh to bhadakti hui aag ki lapat hogi

نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوٰى​ ۖ​ۚ‏ ١٦

that will strip off the scalp.

Jo gosht posht ko chaat jayegi

تَدۡعُوۡا مَنۡ اَدۡبَرَ وَتَوَلّٰىۙ‏ ١٧

It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated,

Pukar pukar kar apni taraf bulayegi har us shaks ko jisne haqq se mooh moda aur peet pheri

وَجَمَعَ فَاَوۡعٰى‏ ١٨

and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it.

Aur maal jamaa kiya aur seint seint kar (amassed wealth) rakkha

اِنَّ الۡاِنۡسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوۡعًا ۙ‏ ١٩

Verily man is impatient by nature:

Insan thud-dila (impatient) paida kiya gaya hai

اِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوۡعًا ۙ‏ ٢٠

bewailing when evil befalls him,

Jab uspar museebat aati hai to ghabra uthta hai

وَاِذَا مَسَّهُ الۡخَيۡرُ مَنُوۡعًا ۙ‏ ٢١

and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him,

Aur jab usey khush-haali naseeb hoti hai to bukhl (kanjoosi) karne lagta hai

اِلَّا الۡمُصَلِّيۡنَۙ‏ ٢٢

except those that pray,

Magar woh log (is aib se bache huey hai) jo namaz padne waley hain

الَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ عَلٰى صَلَاتِهِمۡ دَآٮِٕمُوۡنَۙ‏ ٢٣

and are constant in their Prayer;

Jo apni namaz ki hamesha pabandi karte hai

وَالَّذِيۡنَ فِىۡۤ اَمۡوَالِهِمۡ حَقٌّ مَّعۡلُوۡمٌۙ‏ ٢٤

and those in whose wealth there is a known right

Jinke maalon mein

لِّلسَّآٮِٕلِ وَالۡمَحۡرُوۡمِۙ‏ ٢٥

for those that ask and those that are dispossessed,

Saahil (maangne waley) aur mehroom ka ek haqq mukarrar hai

وَالَّذِيۡنَ يُصَدِّقُوۡنَ بِيَوۡمِ الدِّيۡنِۙ‏ ٢٦

those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense,

Jo roz-e-jaza ko barhaq maante hain

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمۡ مُّشۡفِقُوۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٢٧

and fear the chastisement of their Lord–

Jo apne Rubb ke azaab se darte hain

اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمۡ غَيۡرُ مَاۡمُوۡنٍ‏ ٢٨

surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from –

Kyunke unke Rubb ka azaab aisi cheez nahin hai jissey koi bekhauf ho

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوۡجِهِمۡ حٰفِظُوۡنَۙ‏ ٢٩

and those who guard their private parts,

Jo apni sharmgahon ki hifazat karte hain

اِلَّا عَلٰٓى اَزۡوَاجِهِمۡ اَوۡ مَا مَلَـكَتۡ اَيۡمَانُهُمۡ فَاِنَّهُمۡ غَيۡرُ مَلُوۡمِيۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٣٠

except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable,

Ba-juz apne biwiyon ya apni mamluka aurton ke jinse mehfooz na rakhne mein unpar koi malamat nahin

فَمَنِ ابۡتَغٰى وَرَآءَ ذٰلِكَ فَاُولٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡعٰدُوۡنَ​ۚ‏ ٣١

but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors,

Albatta jo iske alawa kuch aur chahein wahi hadd se tajawuz karne wala hai

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ لِاَمٰنٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رٰعُوۡنَ ۙ‏ ٣٢

and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants,

Jo apne amanaton ki hifazat aur apne ahad (covenant) ka paas karte hai

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ بِشَهٰدٰتِهِمۡ قَآٮِٕمُوۡنَ ۙ‏ ٣٣

and those who are upright in their testimonies;

Jo apni gawahiyon mein raast baazi (upright) par qayam rehte hain

وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ عَلٰى صَلَاتِهِمۡ يُحَافِظُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣٤

and who take due care of their Prayer:

Aur jo apni namaz ki hifazat karte hain

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ فِىۡ جَنّٰتٍ مُّكۡرَمُوۡنَؕ‏ ٣٥

all these shall live honourably in the Gardens.

Yeh log izzat ke saath jannat ke baaghon mei rahenge

فَمَالِ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا قِبَلَكَ مُهۡطِعِيۡنَۙ‏ ٣٦

But what is the matter with the unbelievers who are hurrying towards you

Pas aey Nabi , kya baat hai ke yeh munkirin dayein(left) aur bayein(right) se

عَنِ الۡيَمِيۡنِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِيۡنَ‏ ٣٧

in crowds, both on the right and on the left?

Giroh (crowds) dar giroh(crowds) tumhari taraf daude chale aa rahe hain

اَيَطۡمَعُ كُلُّ امۡرِىءٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ اَنۡ يُّدۡخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيۡمٍۙ‏  ٣٨

Does everyone of them wish to enter the Garden of Bliss?

Kya inmein se har ek yeh lalaj rakhta hai ke woh niyamat bhari jannat mein daakhil kardiya jayega

كَلَّا ؕ اِنَّا خَلَقۡنٰهُمۡ مِّمَّا يَعۡلَمُوۡنَ‏ ٣٩

By no means! They know that which We have created them from.

Hargiz nahin humne jis cheez se inko paida kiya hai usey yeh khud jaante hain

فَلَاۤ اُقۡسِمُ بِرَبِّ الۡمَشٰرِقِ وَالۡمَغٰرِبِ اِنَّا لَقٰدِرُوۡنَۙ‏ ٤٠

I swear by the Lord of the easts and the wests that We have the power

Pas nahin, main qasam khata hoon mashrikon aur maghribon ke maalik ki hum ispar qadir hain

عَلٰٓى اَنۡ نُّبَدِّلَ خَيۡرًا مِّنۡهُمۡۙ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوۡقِيۡنَ‏ ٤١

to replace them by others who would be better than they; and We shall certainly not be overpowered.

Ke inki jagah insey behtar log le aayein aur koi humse baazi le jaane wala nahin hai

فَذَرۡهُمۡ يَخُوۡضُوۡا وَيَلۡعَبُوۡا حَتّٰى يُلٰقُوۡا يَوۡمَهُمُ الَّذِىۡ يُوۡعَدُوۡنَۙ‏ ٤٢

So leave them to engage in vain talk and to amuse themselves until they come face to face with the Day which they are promised,

Lihaza inhein apni behuda baaton aur apne khel mein pada rehne do yahan tak ke yeh apne us din ko pahunch jayenge jiska insey waada kiya ja raha hai

يَوۡمَ يَخۡرُجُوۡنَ مِنَ الۡاَجۡدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَاَنَّهُمۡ اِلٰى نُصُبٍ يُّوۡفِضُوۡنَۙ‏  ٤٣

the Day on which they will hastily come forth from their graves, as though they were hurrying on to the altars of their deities.

Jab yeh apni qabron se nikal kar is tarah daude ja rahey hongey jaise apne buthon (idols) ke aasthano (altars) ki taraf daud rahey hon

خَاشِعَةً اَبۡصَارُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٌ ؕ ذٰلِكَ الۡيَوۡمُ الَّذِىۡ كَانُوۡا يُوۡعَدُوۡنَ‏ ٤٤

Their eyes will be downcast and disgrace will overwhelm them. Such is the Day that they were promised.

Inki nigahein jhuki hui hongi, zillat inpar chaa rahi hogi, woh din hai jiska insey wada kiya ja raha hai
